Grooved Alternator Belts
Does anyone know if the grooves on pulleys and belts are uniform across various manufacturers.
I have the chance of a Vauxhall alternator to fit my Zetec but am not sure if the pulley wil fit the Ford belt.
Thanks,
Steve

There are loads of different profiles for poly vee belts. So its unlikely, but you might be lucky...

Not sure but I think they may all have the same"pitch" just count the number of grooves and somehow work out the length needed. Part
numbers for Gates belts normally give the number of grooves and the length

Yep, the Gates catalogue is a mine of useful info on the sizes. I would think that you could find something to fit - failing that you can always
change the alternator pulley to match the crank pulley.

if its an oddball length or number of grooves you require try BSL (bearing servives limited) they can get just about any length / groove combination.

Although there are four different profiles for the multirib belts, almost all alternators use one PK- with very few using PL. What varies is the
number of ribs used. Some use 4 ribs, some (most) use 6, occasionally 8 if its also driving something like a blower.
If you look at the Contitech website they have a PDF list for the multirib belts showing which car uses which belt....
Hope this helps....
