Is it a case of if it ain't broke don't fix it or should i have it?
Bit worrid about the alt. getting hot as it is quite close

Mine are wrapped to keep under bonnet temps down.
More worried about fuel and air getting warm than the alternator. From my findings Fiberglass is a very good insulator !!

ahhh I see. Warm air and warm fuel are thinner thus less POWER!
Where is the best place to get it from? What is it made from?
Would kevlar strip do the job?

It's very useful for keeping down underbonnet temperatures, but the original theory behind exhaust wrap is that it keeps the exhaust gasses
hotter, and therefore faster which is good for power (i.e. stronger pulses/reflections which make a tuned manifold more effective).

Rally Design keep exhaust wrap, matting, sleeves for cables etc and tie wraps all from stock and prices that you would be hard pressed to beat. (I
do't work for them, just a satisfied customer!)

Oh its supost to assist in keeping the noise down as well ( cant really tell with the V8 !! )
I have used the Socks as they are easiest to slide out of the way when getting to mannifols bolts. Bougt mine think its by Thermo-tec from one of the
kit car shows.

Also higher tems on your fuel and air is a can be a cause of detination ( pinking ) though you need to be looking at quite high CR engines.

you don't fit t hem to cast iron manifolds.
also the tape can hiold in moisture so help rust mild steel manifold quicker - a myth or has anyone experienced this?

I bought some a year back- Merlin were pretty cheap at that stage (same with the metallic glass fibre flexible sheet). Not sure if that holds true
now...

Hi it has also in some cases helped the heat backup into the cyl head and cause problems. Mainly on alloy cyl heads though.
