Redtop>Omega gearbox again
Hi Guys,
Can anyone tell me if there is a good reason why I can't use the later pot style flywheel with the RWD Omega gearbox??
It has a concentric realease bearing so may need spacing to work properly.
But otherwise I can't see why not!!
Help

I used the standard red top engine and bolted it to a standard omega 'box - only thing I has to do was get a spacer turned up in ali to bring
the relsease bearing forward - I think by 22mm - but don't quote me on that!
Everything looks fine so far.

You'll also need the bearing that goes in the end of the Crankshaft as well, for some reason the FWD gearboxed engines don't need/have
this.

Why do you want to use the pot type flywheel?
Dont just build it.....make it!

Am pretty sure the earlier Flywheel is lighter by a considerable amount (something stupid like 2.5kg!) so it would make more sence to use that.

So if I get an early flywheel and matching clutch that should work with the omega gearbox.
All I will need to do is make up a spacer for the slave.

Can't help you with the RWD conversion cos mines still in a FWD tin-top, just found the weights tho:
7kg for early and 9.5kg for late
Can't remember which flywheel type mine is but its had about 2kg taken off the factory flywheel weight and thats in a 1Tonne tin top so
i'd aim to get the lighter one... or even buy a lightned flywheel in the 1st place.
2.5 Kg Ned that should rev rather freely
