Cortina Gearboxes

Still trying to sort out gears for the racer.

Can Anyone tell me if the 2000e gearbox was fitted to the Mk3,4,5 Cortinas? Or to Capri's?

Thanks
Nev.

The Cortina 2000E was a Mk2. I hope this gearbox guide will be of help. http://www.zetecinside.com/xr2/gearbox.htm

No they weren't, if I remember correctly the regulations for the first few seasons specifically banned '2000E' gearboxes (or was it just the alloy bell housings I forget.......) ANYWAY having just re read this years regs you still can't use them as they weren't fitted in 1300cc rear wheel drive escorts either - it's a shame because the ratios are just about ideal (as you've probably worked out )

I believe the regulation was one of the strange ones that were written to supposedly keep costs down but which actualy meant people spend at least twice as much to get the same thing eg paying someone like BGH 3 times the cost of a 2000E 'box to put 2000E ratios in a legal 'box

Hi one other thing to consider is that with the club changing all the regs for 2008 regarding gearbox ratio's it might be worth hanging on till after the AFD discussions coming up verry soon (cant remember exact date ).

This may stop you buying one box now and then having to find an other one to comply with the 2008 regs. We and other people will certinally be bringing up the subject of where they think they are heading with the change of regs at the AFD discussions.

However for this year 2007 the regs remain the same.

The 2000 E ratios are definatly ruled out in the regs as others have pointed out.

I will U2U a number to you regarding a possible contact for a supply of gearboxes.

cheers matt

Hi and that is what has caused all the problems and now means that we have to change the regs to specify a set of ratios for all to use.

Cheers matt

I'd like to see everyone forced to use a standard 1300 box. I've got four of the bludgers sitting in the shed. They fetch less than £20 on ebay.

Cheers,
Syd.
