Xflow flywheel
Right....
I bought a 1600 xflow AUTO for my 100e. I am going over to manual so i was given a flywheel from a friends 1600 xflow to use (no g/box or starter!) .
The starter i got with the engine is an inertia type, well it has the solenoid on it. I have been told that there are 2 types of flywheel, one for
each type of starter.
How do i know which one i have from my friend?

The inertia starter needs a flywheel tooth that has a chamfer on the side away from the engine. The pre-engaged starter has teeth with almost no
discernable chamfer on either side. If the starter has the solenoid on it, then it's the pre-engaged type - the inertia starter needs a
separate solenoid. Note that the autos often had the pre-engaged ones. You will also be pleased to know that the 1600 engine used in automatic cars
was GT spec, as the extra few BHP was needed for the auto.
Note that your new flywheel will not fit directly onto the end of the crank, as there is a steel 'cup' that has to be removed first -
it's not hard to remove with a couple of levers as it's only a 'snug' fit. This cup was an adaptor for the torque converter
on the auto box. You will also need a pinion bearing for the end of the crank - the auto box didn't need one, but the manual one does.
...but you may know all this already!

I have just remembered that the starter is pre-engaged type so if the flywheel is non chamfer then i'm up and running!!
Thanks for the info. I had no idea about the steel cup but did know about the spigot bearing.
Thanks very much
