removing pinto

Is it ok to remove the pinto engine and leave the gearbox still in the car, or is it best to remove both.

I'd think its easiest to remove both together and split outside the car judging from the difficulty i experienced trying to get the drive shaft into the gearbox after the engine rebuild

If the clutch is centralised correctly there is no reason why refitting should be difficult , leave the gearbox in place supported if possible on a trolley jack. When refitting engine to gearbox height can be altered to align engine and box.

Depends - from what its coming out of and with what gear etc. Trouble is that if you lift the whole thing up and out it rotates leaving the back end of the gearbox low and the oil runs out. Done that one! I do it separatley now in and out of the rollerskate and leave the box in situ if i only need the engine out. It can be tricky to mate hem back up - not so bad if you haven't rotated either crankshaft or input shaft.

It's to remove and leave out , not to replace, i just thought i could get myself chain lift to lift engine staight out ,then remove gearbox, wondered if it was easier that way.

If your changing to another engine I'd be interested in your exhaust. u2u me if you want shut.

Hi Brad [ fitting a bike engine ? ] i remove the engine first then the gearbox when i remove my engine

I wil be selling the lot soon, just have'nt made up my mind when, there's 205 engine with inj head fr22 cam, adjustable pulley, Vulcan sump, type 9 box, Indy prop and engine mounts, zx9 carbs with inlet manifold, megajolt with 36 tooth wheel, vr sensor , edis unit and coil pack, Martin Keenan stainless exhaust system, and i have a full set of Smith's gauges to go with the senders.(GULP)

Doing similar soon, i will remove seperately but as i am going to put it back with engine and box together.

quicker to do it whole, you want to lower the front of the car if possible to avoid tilting the box too far. I have a crane you can borrow if you want.

Put the back end up on ramps so the engine tilting up helps clear the front, it makes the job easier.
