Buying Dellorto Carbs- what to look for
I've been offered a pair of Dellorto DHLA 40 G (cast on left hand barrel) by a guy at work. Not sure how much he wants for them but as he made
the mistake of telling me he was gonna throw them out I hope not too much!
I know nothing about carbs so was wondering if anybody could give me advice on what to look for before I part with any hard-earned!
He bought them about 10 years ago to put on a 2.0 Cortina but never got round to it. They'd been on something similar before so hopefully
they're jetted for my purposes already!
They're on a manifold and have the throttle linkage mechanism. This activates all the butterflies so I guess this is a good start!
The idle adjustment screw mechanism is intact and the springs all seem to work fine.
The manifold has a 90° elbow screwed in the top of the left hand barrel and a brass bolt in the most right hand.
What the hell else do I look for!!!
Any idvice greatfully recieved!
Thanks,
James

Hmm - how unusual - a delorto specialist telling you that delortos are better than webbers - pardon my scepticism..
In actual fact I have been told the same from another source....

Really dumb question time!
Hey, I know this is probably a really dumb question but if I don't ask...
These carbs don't have trumpets or air filters. Do I need both, ie. the filters fit over the trumpets or is it a case of one or the other? Both
seems more likely!
Thanks,
James

The bellmouth goes inside the filter to smooth the flow into the venturi if you are desperate for every last bit of power. Otherwise just use a
filter.
yours, Pete.
yours, Pete
I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

hello james you want to check the butterflys are smooth also check the mixture screws still turn both size up and can be fixed at a cost also check
the choke size as these are £15 ish each and you will need four if they are the wrong size for a 2ltr pinto you want 34mm or 36mm
it depends how much you have tuned it
other than that dellortoes are slightly beter but there is almost nothing in it
