Which engine?
rich201283 - 3/12/05 at 11:59 AM

I have just took my 1600 xflow engine out for painting, it has a vulcan head and 285 cam,

I also have a 1800 zetec which i am tempted to put in instead.

Which engine do you think i should put back in?

if you go with the zetec let me know how much you want for crossflow

Toooooo heavy

No heavier than a pinto so i'm told!!

Stick a Vx XE engine in 2.0 16v

Go Zetec - selling the xflo wil give enough cash to do a decent job of fitting it.

The torque though.. and the sound.. and the multitude of exhaust pipes..

Rubbish.. a Rover V8 weighs about 6-8 Kgs (ish) more than a Pinto Engine.
Its a very lightweight V8.
A ford V6 is heavier

Hellfire - 4/12/05 at 05:44 PM

Can it be picked up by one person..? If not - like I said before - Its too heavy

Oh yes, and Magnus Samuelsson and people like him don't count

I can lift my pinto on my own...not for very long though

britishtrident - 4/12/05 at 07:14 PM

Leaving the bare engine weight aside a v8 needs twice the exhaust, heavier gearbox bigger fuel tank, bigger battery, bigger starter, ----- all adds up.

Both the Pinto and the Rover v8 are ancient both are dead ends as regards getting decent bhp/litre from when compared to modern car engines like the Zetec and Rover K.
A bog standard Rover K16 1.4 mPi gives 104bhp 75ps/litre, the Zetec is a similar performer with throttle bodies or webers 180 bhp is a realistic target.

Bike engine of course leaves the K16 and Zetec dead in the water but fitting one in place of an Xflo would be a lot of work .

Now if anyone can figure a way to fit it so it dosen't do 150mph backwards I have a nice 158bhp Honda all alloy Twincam from a Rover 623 waiting in my drive.
