Re-Living Good Times! Photo's from GOME 2008
Steve Hignett - 27/2/09 at 09:16 PM

I will apologise in advance if this seems like a little self-indulgent, self-obsessed kind of post.

But after a very KitCar'y chat on the way home from work, I ended up looking at some old photos...

Please click on the first photo, top left and then click the play button and enjoy the slideshow.

And if you get bored (I didn't but I had to have a quick peak at these too!!!) - http://p4nts.co.uk/nurburgring I'll let you guess what the photos are of!

Please enjoy, but also feel free to hurl abuse

(ps, the "spun" STM near the end is NOT being piloted by it's owner, but a certain "Hades-Alight" member on here)

Once again, thanks to all involved:
Chris, Joe, Tim, Jon, Jon's son!, James, Al, Phil, Steve, Daddy H! etc...

i,ve never driven a car around mallory, apart from driving the van from the hair pin entrance to the paddock
but i must,ve done hundreds of miles round the circuit on a bike (race ), IMO the circuit was spoilt when they added the edwina,s chicane, there was nothing like it going into the esses in the wet on a bike, ( not much run off there ) talk about squeezing ones butt!!!
gerards bend(before new slow down chicane) when you get it right is awsome on a bike, must be 200 mtrs with knee on the deck, ahh those were the days.

Well that just happened to be the 24th of June, which also just happened to be my brothers birthday which Ja, McLannahan and myself spent in Brussels and had a VERY entertaining evening (during the football world cup matches)!!!

Ugly BarSteward on the left is Mclannahan, Ugly Barsteward on the right is my brother ja, and the severely ugly Cee Uue Next Tuesday in the centre/ wearing the Mexico hat, is your very own, Steve...

What a great day!

Will live long in the memory.

Not being anti-BEC here, but, do you guys not worry about the damage done by false neutrals??, the video by Mr Ison had a couple of them and skyrocketing revs. How do they do with a passenger? just thinking that they are already carrying alot more than their design load, then add a passenger and race for a few hours - sounds tough on a small motor and clutch.
Thoughts?

Steve Hignett - 28/2/09 at 03:11 PM

Jon was having a problem with his car during the later half of the day - I can't remember what it was exactly but it wasn't a BEC "Breaking because of sustained hard use problem". Plus it was his lad driving (I think) and he wasn't being gentle!

I only hit a couple of false neutrals in all the time I had the car, and to be honest, even when you are "on it" it doesn't really over rev too much, certainly not enough to cause problems...

Having a passenger isn't too bad. It does have an impact on performance, but once you are at the top of the rev band and staying there, it isn't as noticeable as you think. If you've been giving it beans all day on your own, then someone jumps in who isn't a small lad, you do think you've just lost about 50 HP, but as I said, it's not the end of the world.

i remember jons problem was with the gear linkage and not engine or box problem

Hellfire - 1/3/09 at 06:44 PM

We never did get the results from that day, although I reckon both the BEC teams were up in the points.

To be fair, that spin was the only one of the day (IIRC). The only other mishap happened on my first lap, when I stuck Al's ST in the gravel trap. It was wet though

I remember the day particularly well. I could have quite easily packed up and gone home at lunchtime cos I was soaked through to the skin and absolutely freezing cold. Glad we stuck it out though, the afternoon session was superb.
