bob - 27/3/06 at 07:07 PM

Yeah i noticed that about the £11.50 minimum charge but i think dan is booking us in as a rally so we might get a deal, maybe dan can fill us in in due course

Marc i think you are full

Marcus - 28/3/06 at 12:05 PM

Dan, definitely up for it, bit of a trek, but Sister lives down there anyway, so may make it a long weekend.

Marcus

scutter - 7/4/06 at 03:43 PM

Ok Folks, Update.

I went to provisionally book the campsite today and was told that they can't handle a booking of that size during peak season!!( it's only a campsite after all)

So does anyone else have an idea of where to go on that weekend?

Sorry for messing everyone about but this one appears to be out of my hands.

Looking forward to you're suggestions Dan.

Marcus - 7/4/06 at 04:20 PM

You could try one of the forestry commission sites - Roundhill, Hollands wood (gets very busy), Holmsley or any othershttp://www.forestholidays.co.uk/caravanandcamping/sites/index.asp
Marcus

theconrodkid - 7/4/06 at 06:10 PM

thats a real bummer,me and my mate were looking forward to that, hope you can sort a site that would accomadate us

bob - 7/4/06 at 06:12 PM

Roundhill accept rallies so we would be ok there,i've been to holmsey interesting place (old WW2 airfield ) but the shops are miles away and the site shop doesnt sell booze or fags ruddy forrestry commision types

theconrodkid - 7/4/06 at 06:16 PM

need to know my mate can come as well,if he cant go then neither can i,you wouldnt like that would you

bob - 7/4/06 at 06:27 PM

Just done a check on ukcampsite.co.uk and the reviews on roundhill are good, and only 5 mins from civilisation

http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=1169

Fozzie - 7/4/06 at 07:14 PM

Mmmm not too sure about the ponies and donkeys gnawing at my car, or eating my stash of biccies!

Fozzie

theconrodkid - 7/4/06 at 07:19 PM

wild life stealing your bix is the least of your probs, beware me and my mate

Marcus - 7/4/06 at 07:23 PM

Stayed at Roundhill 3 or 4 times - nice spot. Don't think the shop sells booze or cigs - sorry Bob!
Brockenhurst is only 5 mins down the road though.

Marcus

ned - 7/4/06 at 08:01 PM

fozzie, maybe you could get a small electric fence to put round the perimeter of your car to protect it from the ponies (and maybe the drunks!!!!!)

scutter - 7/4/06 at 08:07 PM

I was going to suggest Holland wood as there's a pub within walking distance.

The problem now is they only take bookings for longer than 4 days in advance. So we'd be chancing it on the required dates.

ATB Dan.

greggors84 - 7/4/06 at 08:10 PM

Will be away for the big camp over, but just to say, we used to stay at roundhill all the time when i was younger. Really nice campsite, absolutely massive, if you pick a spot in the middle you shouldnt have much problem with the ponys, they seem to hang around the edges.

nice one Ned!

Fozzie

Kitlooney1000 - 8/4/06 at 10:02 PM

Hi every one,
Ocknell and longbeech campsite has a wicked pub near by (walking distance). they have a good selection of real ales on the barrel.
I will be more than willing to view the campsite and pub and take pictures to post on this site!! Will have to be next weekend now though

regards

Lew

Jasper - 8/4/06 at 10:05 PM

beer ...... meat ........ beer ....... meat ......

ned - 8/4/06 at 10:09 PM

don't forget the caesar salad jasper

Fozzie - 8/4/06 at 10:13 PM

That would be ace Lew!

Fozzie

bob - 9/4/06 at 07:23 AM

Nice one lew

The New Forest has more camping facilities than any other aea i know of, i'm sure we will all manage to get in somewhere if we cant book in advance.

We can draw up a hit list from http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk

Trev D - 9/4/06 at 03:05 PM

Hi all, you can book in advance at Hollands Wood but it has to be a minimum of a 3 night stay. We have stayed there a few times and pre booked on the internet.
hope all works out

Regards Trev.

Marcus - 9/4/06 at 03:07 PM

Thinking about it, Ocknell is not that popular, as it's a bit out of the way, so my be ideal. We used it las year when we went 'on spec'. It was the only one around that could fit us in.

Marcus

scutter - 11/4/06 at 03:33 PM

OK folks I'm back,( been to see the folks)

As the Redshot can't fit us in and the commission site don't do booking below 3 days is everone happy to try and wing it on the weekend mentioned, (also allows us to cancel if the weathers cr*p)

I'd rather go to longbeech as it's got loos

Does anyone have anymore suggestions before I draw up a list of site for us to try on the weekend itself?

ATB Dan.

bob - 11/4/06 at 06:00 PM

Thats fine with me Dan, good idea re weather.

Maybe we can knock up a short list of sites that close to each other nearer the time, i'll still come down on the friday (weather permiting) which may help us out getting in somewhere before the saturday nighters arive.

scutter - 18/4/06 at 06:12 PM

Cheers Bob, How does this sound?

Long beech
Hollands Wood
Roundhill

Just a start. ATB Dan.

bob - 18/4/06 at 06:25 PM

Dan

Where is long beech ?

And dont say in the states

Marcus - 18/4/06 at 07:54 PM

Isn't Long Beech across the A337 from Hollands Wood? where they have the New Forest Show?

Marcus

Kitlooney1000 - 18/4/06 at 10:07 PM

but unfortunately, didnt make it to the camp sites, once andy, peter and i found the royal ok, we didnt get any further. Nice pub, good beer, menus look good too!!
