WLM xmas bash/curry 2006
ned - 3/10/06 at 10:37 AM

Ok ok, I know it's only just october but I have only 2 friday nights left in december now (one of them is the 22nd which will be out for most people i expect) and about 5 work related xmas parties to attend already so thought I should at least ask to try and fit the wlm in somewhere!

Looked back and last year we had curry on a saturday at the 'red chilli' near dorking.

James and I have approved the 'red rose' in guildford, 1 minute off the a3 or a25 so easy to get to, parking is also no problem and best of all teh food/service has been very good whenever we've been in.
Restaurant details/website here:
http://www.redroseguildford.com/

Need idea's for the day - friday/saturday night? Guessing mid week wouldn't be popular. Anyone suggest a date? I can currently do friday 8th Dec and I think the first 3 weekends in december.

cheers,

Ned.

Jasper - 3/10/06 at 12:03 PM

Can only do the 8th and 9th in December, 9th prefered as I have to work Saturday daytime

BTW - I'm not driving this year as I drove last year - you know who you are who I drove last year

James - 3/10/06 at 12:49 PM

Red Rose, seconded by me.

Only ever been extremely impressed by the food and have been there about 10 times.

Price is average too.

They also really like my Locost there so it must be a good place.

I insist on not driving there!

Cheers,
James

James - 3/10/06 at 12:52 PM

Googled the location:

ned - 3/10/06 at 12:55 PM

James I think I can sort us out with a lift

must have eaten there 4 or 5 times myself!

The madras, karahi chicken and jalfeizi are all recommended

James - 3/10/06 at 03:03 PM

Always been a bit sniffy about people who have Tikka Masala (it being a British dish) but tried it at the Rose Valley and have to say it's great.

And the onion bargees and Keema Nan is highly recommended too!

Yum yum!

cheers,
James

theconrodkid - 3/10/06 at 04:13 PM

chockymonster - 3/10/06 at 06:23 PM

Pezza - 3/10/06 at 09:39 PM

ned - 26/10/06 at 10:08 AM

Hope that means a bhaji and not a bargee

Chippy - 6/11/06 at 12:14 AM

Well all the above counts me out, can't stand curry, either the smell or the taste. Being that I would have to drive there, can't drink also, so see you all at one of the sunday meetings. Ray.

x.

bob - 15/11/06 at 09:31 AM

For a minute there Ned i thought you were the manager of Luton Town FC

James - 16/11/06 at 03:08 PM

I think Ned's more worried about the effect his stunning good looks might have on Mrs. Pezza... he's worried it'd ruin Pezza's night for him!

James

Pezza - 16/11/06 at 05:26 PM

lol

ned - 30/11/06 at 10:45 AM

I have just rung Red Rose and confirmed/checked the no's on the booking. Table is booked for 7pm.
I would suggest either
a) everyone arrives at the restaurant between 6.30-7 and has a drink before hand whilst we wait for everyone to arrive.
b)anyone wanting to start earlier meet at the guildford parkway which is literally just round the corner:
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?ie=UTF8&z=16&ll=51.250312,-0.567555&spn=0.006702,0.014462&om=1
pub is where the little close is, just off parkway, the restaurant is just off (and visible from) the roundabout top left of the page.

Pezza - 5/12/06 at 06:21 PM

Not going to be able to make it now i'm afraid, work sprung a surprise on me

James - 7/12/06 at 11:23 AM

Ned,

I'm competing Sunday so I'm going to have to take it *very* easy Saturday night. If you want a lift down you're very welcome.

Will need to be tucked up in bed not too late as well though, so you might wanna try blagging a lift back with someone else!

Cheers,
James

ned - 7/12/06 at 11:45 AM

The other half is chauffeuring so I'm sorted

Humbug - 8/12/06 at 08:03 AM

James - if Ned doesn't need a lift, you could give me a lift instead, if you like... say 6pm from Sevenoaks?

See you all tomorrow

ned - 8/12/06 at 09:44 AM

Final weekday call for this - oh and unless everyone wants to pay by card remember to bring plenty of small denomination notes and coins as you know what it's like when no-one's got the right money or change!!

Ned.

James - 8/12/06 at 11:19 AM

Just 10?

Who's missing from last year? Foz and DLT I spose.... must be others.

Oh, and are the WLM the only peeps having an Xmas do? Only asking as I remember a few 'comments' made by ChrisG et al about our late organisation a couple of years ago.

Cheers,
James

Fozzie - 8/12/06 at 11:25 AM

Well, I hope you all have a very good evening..

I will be looking forward to seeing the pics...

ATB Fozzie

ned - 8/12/06 at 11:26 AM

foz, dlt, donut, paul (gasgasgas) & jason were there last year who can't make this one

this one takes you back a bit
http://locostbuilders.co.uk/upload/curry_night2.jpg

this must be the 4th annual wlm/southern xmas bash.
2002 (held 24th jan 03) Caterham organised by donut
2004 Skimmington Castle orgainsed by Jasper
2005 Red Chilli, a24 organised by Donut
2006 Red Rose, Guildford organised by moi.

ps have to see if we can find any pictures of a camp waiter this year

[Edited on 8/12/06 by ned]

James - 8/12/06 at 11:36 AM

Where/when was the place (sure it was a pub, ChrisW was there IIRC) down the A25. We were all in a tiny room down some stairs.

Cheers,
James

ned - 8/12/06 at 11:38 AM

before my time?
that would have been december 2001?

Jasper - 8/12/06 at 12:01 PM

We'll see you there then

ned - 8/12/06 at 12:12 PM

Forgot to say booking is in my name (Andrew Crafter) though from their pronounciation it may be slightly different in their book! I aim to be there around 6.45

Ned.

Ah that was Skimmington Castle in 2004..... now that was a Crimbo dinner!

Even if us 'rabble' were hidden away in the dungeon (cellar) from the rest of the diners!

Yep sorry about this year, but a curry isn't a good choice here, don't like the smell these days (over dosed in a wild and mis-spent yoof) so ordering 'english' not an option.... and as its a 'birthday weekend' definately not the cuisine of choice....... but as said have a great time and 'I will miss you all'....

Fozzie

bob - 8/12/06 at 02:07 PM

I cant believe donut organised two christmas meal/doo's that must be a typeo.

see you all tomorow.

PS. remember dont bother bringing me a crimbo card as i'm not bringing any for you

Humbug - 10/12/06 at 10:26 AM

It was nice to see everybody, to see everybody nice!

Cheers,

jimgiblett - 10/12/06 at 10:46 AM

Good to see you all again. Might have given me the inspiration to get out the cold garage and start on my winter upgrades.

Cheers

Jim

Jasper - 11/12/06 at 11:19 AM

Nice one chaps - somebody gonna upload some piccies?

Thanks Ned, great place, service and food were both excellent.

And I had the mother of all handovers yesterday ..... hardly made it off the sofa

bob - 11/12/06 at 11:25 AM

I've cured hangovers for life, either stop drinking completley or drink morning noon and night

James - 11/12/06 at 05:50 PM

Mmmm, it is good there isn't it!!!

Glad I didn't eat any more than I did... only made my weight by 400g as it was!

Glad you guys liked it there. Everyone always thinks their local is 'the best curry house ever' so it's a bit daunting taking 'occasionally critical' people there!

Cheers,
James
