i came across this item on ebay
Cobra Tot Rod Kit Car Hot Rod Custom Collectors Toy Car on eBay (end time 30-Nov-10 14:34:34 GMT)
just wondering how i would go about turning it into a petrol engined kiddie kit car or can you guys suggest another kit,
already been on

I'd go for electric - nice and easy to do, eco friendly, and arguably safer.

2 12v batteries will give it more than plenty of poke. Rob a mobility scooter or golf buggy for the motor and controller. (When I say rob, I don't mean literally steal it from under an OAP or golfer).

The basic body tub is built from a single 8’ x 4’ sheet of Medite ‘MD F’, a medium density fibreboard available from most wood suppliers.

Don't think you'll need to crack out the welder to build that. Tough bit would be the wings and nose cone. You can buy them for £111, but you could use it as a learning experience for working in GF

where did you get the prices for those parts? thanks scudderfish

The prices are on http://www.locust.org.uk/about/brochures/bwe/grasshopper.htm mind its Effective from 25 April 1999 !!

Its a wood (MDF) body tub that can be skined with ali

its a shame that bwe sportscars dont have a website with an updated price list.
I contacted them the other day and the build plans are now 45 quid, so im assuming everything else woulda gone up in the last 11 years

The easiest/cheapest way to build a kiddy car will be to find an obsolete kart chassis (possibly even with motor) and mount a body shell over that.

It may not look it at first but once you figure out / source all the axles/bearings/wheels/tyres/steering gear etc, etc, starting completely from scratch will prove to be false economy.

Cheers
