
Hi All
After a long search I've finally managed to get hold of a 3.14 Diff to replace the 3.92 currently fitted.
The 3.14 has push in shafts whereas my current set-up is lobro. What is the best course of action:
1. Remove crownwheel and pinion from 3.14 and fit into 3.92 casing
2. Fit lobro flanges to the 3.14 casing?
An explanation of how to do either would be greatly appreciated.

Have a hunt around with the Search button- there's been quite a few threads about this and info on which combinations work and which
don't.

Probably badly worded my me in the initial post, but it's not which combo's work as I believe both are pssible, but which of the two options
are easier.
Has anyone actually changed the flanges from push in to lobro, if so any tips etc...

Absolutely gutted, just made a quality schoolboy error!
Spent the last 6 months looking for a 3.14 7" sierra diff, finally found one at that was only going for a semi exorbitant price & purchased.
Delivered today, checked, everthing looking good it's definately a 3.14.
Guess which dipstick automatically presumed his car was fitted with a 7" diff and has just found it's actually a 7.5".
Are the internals interchangeable between 7 & 7.5" Diffs? If not there will be 3.14 diff up for sale shortly.

slow down........... 7" diffs are really common. Why not just mount the 7" diff with a few spacers into your car?
If you've just got the crown wheel and pinnion then buy another (cheap) 7" diff and make it up.
I believe you can swap between lobro and the other joint but one way works really well and the other works in theory but i read of one person casting
doubt. I'm sure i've posted what i'd read previously do a search.

Out of interest what car is this for?
I would do what Mike says and fit the smaller diff if you possibly can.
Another alternative is to get your drive shafts cut and shut. Drive shafts from the push-in joined to the other type. Can't imagine it's
that difficult/expensive as you can get complete, custom, lightweight ones made for £70 a side.

The car is a Homebrew with dimentions along the lines of an MK. I would love to keep the diff as the gearing is ideal for what I reuqire, but after
spending all last night on t'internet is does not look like exchanging one for the other is straigtforward:
Although the bottom mount is the same width, the 7.5" diff already fitted is some 2cm wider than the 7" which will cuse problems with the
drive shafts (On top of the already differing output flanges).
Taking into account I should be able to get hold of a 3.38 7.5" diff from a Granada fairly easily (Which will be a straight swop) it's
better that I cut my losses now rather than waste yet more time revisiting (butchering) jobs that have already been completed on the car just to fit
the 7" diff.
Oh, ok. If it really is that hard to fit?
My car's not exactly dis-similar to an MK and fitting a narrower diff would just be a case of fitting a few washers to fill up the gap between
the mounts!
I'd put up a few pictures if I were you- someone may well have a simple solution to the problem. You never know!

ok, daft question, if the drive shafts don't fit ........ how much would two 7" drive shafts be? I thought all sierras had the same track so
two drive shafts from the scrappy and ........ you're laughing !!!!!

Why not get a common or garden 3.62/3.92 7" open diff with lobro flanges (usually cheap as chips) and swap your 3.14 internals with it?
Might be worth contacting JoelP on this forum as I believe (though I might be wrong) he breaks Sierras on a regular basis and is in your neck
of the woods.
