I found this wiring diagram on yahoo BEC groups for a gear indicator light. Has anyone tried it and do you know if it will work???

I was assuming the up and down switches are microswitches mounted somewhere along the gear linkage system?
I have heard that you can get an R1 gear indicator that works out what gear you are in based on engine speed and revs?

The circuit can be made to work but you'd have to program the chip as well as solder it up. IF you've not made electronic microprocessor circuits before you've probably got an impossibly steep learning curve with that one... if it comes ready built on a little PCB then you might get something out of it (I'm assuming that 'cos you asked about it you're a bit in the dark???)
The "solenoid relay" waht's that about - is it to power a "pushbutton" gearchange? if so that will take you up the box - how do you get back down?
The gear displays that work it out from revs and mph DO work pretty well - (at least the one I made does - I hear some of the commercial ones are tough to set up reliably) though the display is complete fiction as soon as you press the clutch!

Another builder who has one of these dash's on a ZX9 powered car says the gear indicator is the best bit!

Cheers Bob, I've made a few PCB's in my time mostly from veroboard and i'm fairly handy with the soldering iron so that no problem but i'd thought I would ask the question if anyone has made this particular board or one similar as I wouldnt want to spend a load of time if it doesnt work very well. Not sure what the solenoid relay does either as it doesnt show a connection to anything?
I am thinking that buying a ready made unit may be the best option.

You realize that's a microcontroller chip, right? It needs a program in it to run things. Without that the circuit is useless.
