
Does anybody know the performance figures for the R300 compared to, say an R1 BEC and how would it compare around the track? Just wondered because a
freind of mine has a Scooby, 400 odd bhp and said that a R300 was all over him around Anglesea.

Sounds about right... bhp/tonne must have been about equivalent.

we have an sti 320bhp special edition
and you could be the shittest drive in the world and still get good results

My neigbour has a scooby STI and If he doesn't stop reving it late at night I'm gonna pull that annoying race can off and shove it up his arse.
what do our cars compare on straights to these kind of cars ? like scoobs evos etc etc with reasonable bhp like 280-350ish
do they overtake us
I ask because a Pulsar which I know is hardly tuned at all probaly filter and little boost increase
sat on my bumper the other day and it pissed me off big stlye
although I pulled a quite a few cars ahead of him from stand still

r300's were quicker than shorties indyblade round brands when he was two up a month or two ago. its an older blade though so an r1 would have
been quicker..

Mine appears to be fairly comprable to an R400. Judging by my visit to Croix last year (the R300s didnt come close other than in reversing speed
What it loses out on BHP it gains on being light weight. As Ned says 2up in a BEC knackers the power to weight.

Ive done a 49.9 lap round Anglesey with the blade engine a couple of years ago, not timed since Ive had the R1 but Id imagine you could maybe knock an
extra half second off that everything being equal.
A well pedalled R300 wouldnt be far off that though, especially round Anglesey that doesnt really reward huge power that much. Generally though as
Jim says, with the R1 its similar to R400 performance overall, an R300 is significantly slower in a straight line.

On slightly different note, a friend of mine has both an R1 Westie and a genuine ~320bhp Scoobie STi4, and he pretty much confirms what Chris said, that up to 80mph the BEC is easily quicker, but above that the power takes over and the Scoobie just keeps accelerating relentlessly to 150mph+. He was still quicker over a lap of Spa in the Westie though, even though its a very fast open circuit.
Sounds about right Chris - I was at Snetterton in April on a Scooby and Skyline dominated track day.
Some of the cars were mighty quick down the revett straight but none could keep up with me on a full lap :-) Some of them were 400bhp+. The smell of
burning clutches was very strong!

Yep thats a good point actually, if comparing speed on trackdays as well as outright laptime, its also worth looking at how many laps it can do without wilting! A lot of the TNBs (Turbo Nutter Barges as Jonny @ BaT calls them) seem to start cooking tyres and brakes if they're on it for a full session, whereas a lightweight car can put in fast times all day long and yet dont come out the other end with a £400 bill for new tyres / brakes every trackday.

l was two up and pulled away loads up till about 80 after that he kept up but the road was a bit bumpy so I kept backing of the accelerator aswell

Just been looking on 5th gears webb site,for there lap times for varous cars at anglessey,FQ400 with vicky butler H driving 52 seconds,so as Chris
confirms,he's gone round in 49'9 in a blade,2 seconds doe's not sound alot,but on a short circuit it would be very noticeable after
just a few laps,5th gear also had a westfield busa engined car listed at 48 seconds,so this again would confirm,big turbo nutter cars are not as quick
around the tighter tracks than,bec's

Yep, Anglesey is well suited to small, lightweight cars with reasonable power/weight. I think that 48.0s Westfield lap was done in the mid
engine'd XTR4 (with Audi 1.8T engine rather than a busa), but I suspect with Tiff behind the wheel that would have been a bit quicker. A friend
of mine with a regular 200bhp Vx Westfield SEiW on hillclimb slicks was doing mid 47's on the same day as I was timing (which before I get grief
for timing on trackdays, this was a private day so we were allowed to and was done with proper lap timing gear
).

Anglesey isn't kind to bigger power cars. My pal was most annoyed to discover a few grands worth of fibreglass was all over his brand new M5 a week ago! When I put a good one together I was doing approx 50 second laps. The R300 driven by the organiser was a second a lap quicker but he made up most of that in school! Mine's a standard 919cc blade engine.
