Just replaced a snapped clutch cable and in preparing to go for a test ride I have discovered I also have a sticking throttle cable. I diagnosed a cruddy cable/outer and replaced them. Brand new, well lubricated cable and outer is doing the same thing, pedal goes to the floor and stays there. Does it on part throttle too. Am I missing a trick or is something else broken?

The cam returns sharply if I activate it manually. But do I need some springs in there to make up for the lack of a return cable?

Must've fallen off! What have people used and where have you fitted them?

Not sure what your set up looks like, but generally somewhere near the cable end on the engine there should be a place to stick on end of a spring into. Mine is (for the moment) cable tied to the cradle at on ened and stuck onto the idle adjustment bit on the carbs. Failing this, you just need one somewhere on the spindle to return it to the stops. It may also be poss to put one on the pedal itself.

I always fit a "soft" spring on the pedal as well to assist.

I used a spring from an old mini clutch, had good effect.

sounds to me like you have the polybush on the throttle pedal hinge clamped too tight. Back the hinge bolt nut off half a turn and squirt with spray grease or similiar.

worked on mine- no return spring required.

We had no return spring on our Blade throttle either and it worked OK. Make sure that the cable isn't too thick and runs smoothly in the throttle pulley groove.

I'll give it whirl chaps while I source some springs. But I think I'll rig something up to be on the safe side. Cheers.
