hi
as above I know its lighter
(is it much lighter)
are all the ratios the same on all diffs
Ive read some previous posts
with a bit of confuison
so whats so good about the ratio ie is it better for acceleration or top speed etc
thanks chris
sorry I dont mean is it much lighter I mean is it much smaller
I think it also has very low ratios suitable for bike engines. Around the 3.0:1 - 3.4:1 range I think.
IIRC, loads lighter and better ration for BEC's.
3.1 rings a bell.
Better for top end.
No need to worry about acceleration on a BEC!
Pat...
Westfield do a 3.2:1 LSD Freelander diff for bike engine cars but it's pricey.
The freelander diff is available in one ratio only 3.21 - this is ideal for the higher output bike engines (blackbird, busa ZX12 etc)
You can pick up new ones for around £2-300. They do not come with LSD. For that you have to upgrade with Quaife internals at a cost of around
£1000.....
So the advantages are lightness and ratio (especially as sierra 3.14 is very rare)
Cheers
Paul
beware of second hand ones as they do break and make some strange noises
for the record, they weigh 14kgs, which is 6ish kgs lighter than a normal sierra diff. They are much smaller too. The mounts are inconvinient as they are behind the driveshafts as opposed to in front like the sierra ones. The ratio might prove too low for my zx9 though.
