Fitted a oil pressure gauge to the 12 today.

when the engine is warm and on idle i have a reading of 0 psi on the gauge,

once i pick up the throttle it rises.

Q = is this normal as my blackbird on tickover is around 20 psi.

on a run out it rises to max around 70psi.

and in 6th around 50mph it reads 35psi.

any advice helpful on the readings.

Are you sure of the guages accuracy? ie is 0psi really 0 psi?

it is a brand new racetec guage manual cappilary which a reasonably accurate,

i have the same guage in the blackbird car,

so this should be ok.


also no oil light is comming on so cannot be that low.

i fitted it in the oil pressure switch hole with a t piece.

Would be loads of hassle to use the guage that is currently on the bird engine? That would give an accurate comparison between the engines.

The manual states 23 psi @ 4,000rpm with oil temp at 90 degrees. Unless you're on a track or giving it serious hammer, it'll be difficult to get the temperature upto 90 degrees. Ours is usually around 26 psi at a slightly cooler temperature (80 ish) so would seem to be OK. It does drop really low on tickover usually between about 2 and 6 psi (Which is quite common for the ZX12R). Don't think I've ever seen it at zero though.

If you can get it to above 23 psi at 4,000rpm when it's warm, you should be OK.

Looking at your 6th gear, 50mph pressure at 35 psi, suggests everything is OK.

if it is around 2 - 6 a tickover it should be ok as the manual guages are not that accurate.

the guage goes from 0 to 160 psi.

the readings you quoted helfire are close enough so thanks for the re-assurance.
