Afternoon all,
Just looking at making possible chassis mods for the fitting a dry sump tank to my Tiger chassis. Currently i am thinking of shortening the passenger
footwell and fitting it there like this..... http://www.tiger-super-cat.co.uk/csc/supercat_zx12r/slides/DSCF9916.html
Are there better options for fitting the tank? Looks a good way to help distribute the weight and so on - not very often i will carry passengers
anyway so the loss of 7" or 8" of footwell space shouldnt be too bad.
Also - what size tank is best (ZX12R planned)?? Pace recommend 5" dia (3.2L tanks for BEC's but this seems quite small to me. Is going
bigger a bit pointless?? I was looking at this earlier which looks a neat bit of kit but is it overkill at 2 gallon capacity??

Cheers guys

overkill me thinks, bike engines dont hold much oil, plus that will weigh alot when full.
Edit: see here http://www.zx11.info/zx12r/home.htm
4l wet sump capacity, 2 gallons is a bit more than is needed

Ah thats good then - just 3.2L didnt seem much at all but guess there will be a fair bit more in the oil lines, oil cooler, filer and engine anyway
wont there. Too used to car engines myself.
Will have a look around for a smaller tank (without the Pace prices)
Have you had a look at:

They make petrol tanks and dry sump tanks and they're cheap as chips compared to some....
Not sure if they're up for custom builds but I might be finding out soon...

Just out of curiosity, why are you fitting a dry sump? What sort of driving do you intend doing?
Phil
In the footwell??? Not sure I'd want to be a passenger if it's sitting next to my toes. For one- the footwells often get toasty warm as it
is and for two- if a pipe came off they've quickly have 3.5L of hot engine oil over their toes.....
The engine bay side of the passenger footwell firewall though would seem a brilliant place to have a dry sump tank!!

i have a drysump tank in mt passenger footwell .the tank holds approx 5 litres.it doesnt cause passengers any problems
Well I have received a quick response back from Spencer at SM Engineering ( http://www.sm-engineering.co.uk ) and sounds just what I am looking for -
custom made should allow me to get the connections in the best place for my car along with the correct size.
Copy of email reply below for anyone interested in similar products.
"Hi,
Would you want one with the catch tank or just a dry sump tank? i can manufacture one to your spec if you had a design in mind or you could just have
a smaller version of this, i would have to reduce the diameter and height to get the capacity e.g 120mm diameter x 350mm high would give approx
3.90litres, if you want to email a sketch or give me a call on 07967831453 then i will sort out a price,
