Whats the going rate for a scrap car?
v8kid - 15/4/15 at 11:16 AM

Hi Chaps,

I can't be arsed MOTing the Honda CRV again and it really should be retired at 15 tears old and 200,000 miles plus.

What's the situation with scrappies? Been offered £180 by webuyanycar but I expect when I get there they will find an excuse to drop the price.

So if I deliver car to scrappie, and loose a running day on the MOT and tax, do I get more than if they pick it up? Anyone know the going rates?

Cheers!

If WBAC offer you £180 for a scrapper, that's not actually bad going, normally it's about £60.

Keep in mind there's an admin charge of probably £50 or something ridiculous that'll leave you with very little.

Scrappies should offer circa £100-120 per ton of mixed steel (i.e. a complete car) - not sure what exact prices are these days.

For your car, £150-£200 is probably about right.

Metal recyclers a few miles from my house charge £25 if they pick the car up.

If you don't want to leave the house, I'd probably stick it on ebay with 99p no reserve and some decent photos and a description in English and with Caps Lock turned off, and you should get that easily.

Scrap prices have dropped dramatically recently. Just been offered £50 by the scappies for a 2003 C3 with cambelt gone.

I got zero for my MX5 donor, most didn't want to know.

You're not wrong... just checked online, scrap steel prices down almost 50%.... so maybe expect £100 max for your Honda at the scrappies.

Another vote for ebay 99p.

Remember there can be big difference between a car breaker and scrap metal dealer.
A metal dealer will give you better prices than a breakers yard as they are effectively a middle man (unless like some they are part of the same company).

I got £68 for 880kg of car at the weekend.

Currently £85/ton round here at the moment. I sold a Saab 9-3 three weeks ago and two blokes did a 100 mile round trip and paid me £130. They said they'd get £90 for the cat and weigh the rest in for about £100.

£90 for a Cat, must remember that one!

OE cats are worth more than aftermarket ones and some are worth more than others!

I would use cartakeback.com rather than webuyanycar ..

stevebubs - 15/4/15 at 10:22 PM

PS cartakeback used to give the 'delivery' and 'collect' offers...

Contact your local banger racers, let it have one last fling, they will give you min scrap value for a runner

Got £1 for a bare shell from a bmw coupe. Guy loaded it from my drive.

someone near to me ( herts ) recently scrapped a mk2 mondeo... and it had a broken fridge and a washing machine in it... managed to get £83.

thought that was a bit low. Could stick complete running cars on ebay for £100-£150 and they'd sell . People love a bargain
