Aye, you're right but times have moved on since then...

Just trying to get a feel for numbers on the road or in build out there - in relation to other manufacturers....are we a big marque yet??

jollygreengiant - 13/2/07 at 02:06 PM

Luego Viento here. It is going to start life as a 2.0i pinto but after a suitable honeymoon period it might get a V8 OR I might build a second one specifically for a V8 and let the wife/kids loose in Adam (The first according to the bible).

Any way a litttle while off SVA at the mo. Still to do :-
Finish fuel system
Prop
Radiator & cooling fan
Sort engine
Seats & Seat belts
Handbrake cables
Fill & bleed brakes
Exhaust
Fit wings
Fit lights
Get & fit correct tyres & wheels
Turn ignition key
Crap myself at SVA.

Oh & milestone reached today, anyone remember that song,.... 4 wheels on my wagon....

jcs - 15/2/07 at 07:27 AM

I have just finished a Velocity XT with 2000 Pinto. SVA okay, just waiting registration. DVLA after 3weeks still not inspected!!!

Fub - 15/2/07 at 10:41 AM

Viento Cosworth V6
Building has been on hold for last 12 months.
Motivation problems with wiring and building engine mounts.
Noticed NeilP has been building one.
HELP!!!!!!
Any advice form what you have learnt.
Much to ask, much to learn, please help kick start me.

richard thomas - 15/2/07 at 11:46 AM

Get on with it man!!!

What do you need help with??

Don't be afraid to ask, the answer will more than likely be on here, plenty of knowledge around these parts...

When i started posting, my attitude was - I'd rather sound daft asking this question than remain daft indefinately... I'd never have finished without this forum.

Rich.

Fub - 15/2/07 at 12:08 PM

It's not the bit about sounding daft it's the bit about actually being daft.
I loved going out to the garage at weekends and starting one job and doing what I thought was great and then in hindsight thought why did I do it that way and then take it apart and redo it.
Then look at what I redone and realise i could have done it even better.
I got the engine as far back as I could and due to the heads had to change part of the chasis, then realised the reverse switch hit so moved the engine forward, then realised I didn't have to have the reverse light in the first place so it can go back.
Bang my head. 14pound mallett required.
I have the original cosworth loom but it needs shortening. Scared...
Engine mountings to be made. and exhaust to build and then it may be finished.
You guys are the source to my completing this 3 years to date project.
So wiring... what do I need to be doing as I am told that using the cosworth stuff wants to speak to the auto box and i am using 2.4 type 9 with hydro clutch and 4x4 clutdh system.
Exhaust... I want to use the standard manifold with lambda, no cats and exiting the sides through single pipe. The os has vacuum unit and pipe going into the back of the inlet. Why and do I need this as I have tried to fit with the pipe in place, after swearing and scratching the powder coat took it back out as it was a disaster.
Engine mountings... the originals with the mounting rubbers will need the engine to be low and the sump hanging down like cows udders.
Fuel pump... what is recommended as a stand alone with inline filter.
This is the bulk of whats left to be done the rest is cosmetic I hope.

HELP PLEASE

Sorry for the long post you can all wake up now....Yawn

We're all a bit that way don't worry!

We'll come back to that one.....

Engine mountings to be made. and exhaust to build and then it may be finished.

Pretty sure some others have used this engine before - must be someone who can give a pointer in the Engine/transmission section...?

Yes, I have read about this before, apparently the engine will stall a lot at traffic lights etc - there must be a fix, again probably in the eng/transmission section?

Exhaust... I want to use the standard manifold with lambda, no cats and exiting the sides through single pipe.

You might need the cats depending on the engine age for SVA....?? anyone confirm this?

The os has vacuum unit and pipe going into the back of the inlet. Why and do I need this as I have tried to fit with the pipe in place, after swearing and scratching the powder coat took it back out as it was a disaster.

Inlet manifold heater?? any takers?

Engine mountings... the originals with the mounting rubbers will need the engine to be low and the sump hanging down like cows udders.

New bespoke ones required...

Fuel pump... what is recommended as a stand alone with inline filter.

The original Granny one will give the correct pressure??

Anyone else got any further gen??

Rich.

Fub - 15/2/07 at 01:29 PM

Thanks for the support.

I have checked the age of the engine and it is pre 95 so no need for cats.
The fuel pump was part of the tank and that is probably a toyota by now.
The other stuff will be the nerve centre to completion.
What i didn't add was that i am using a set of merc amg alloys on the longest wheel studs available and a 5mm spacer as a 10mm only allowed a few turns on the wheel nuts.
I am trying to put a 5 mm spacer set between the hub and upright.
According to the luego instructions this has been acheived by using washers but I want a solid version the actual shape of the back of the hub to transfer pressure across the whole area and not the bolts.
To save taking the whole thing apart has anyone got one laying around that can be used to make a template out of.
I am using the Granada hub but it looks very much like a Sierra.

richard thomas - 15/2/07 at 02:38 PM

I would investigate a sierra EFi fuel pump - i would bet that the operating pressures are similar...

blockhead_rich - 15/2/07 at 09:38 PM

Mine was registered on the 1st of August last year - just when the weather tunred crap! Still got to sort out the blowing fuses though - roughly 1-2 per trip!

Rich

richard thomas - 15/2/07 at 09:44 PM

I'm gonna have to start counting us all soon and post a list - more than I thought.....

Try this

or We fitted the 24v cossi into a TVR s2. but using an Emerald Ecu. It will save you allot of time and effort.

NeilP - 20/2/07 at 10:35 PM

Been exchanging emails with Fub on various bits and pieces but missed that this thread had extended.

I know that Chris has been asked more than once to put in a FAQ section but ....

CHRIS! PLEASE PUT IN AN OPEN EDIT FAQ SECTION!!!!!
