Hi all,
In need of quick advice to get SVA1 form in ASAP!
My Indy is moded to take a removable tow hitch (don't laugh!). Any way I need to know what numbers to put on Q15 of the sva from.
From what I can gather I should fill it in as follows:
Axle1: 425kg (as standard Indy)
Axle2: 500kg (as standard Indy)
Gross: 925kg (as standard Indy)
Train: 1665kg (0.8xGross+Gross)
My indy is a CEC with weather gear so it's no light weight (>650kg unladen I would guess).
I.e assuming Maximum combination weight of Gross+Gross*0.8 (i.e assuming maximum loading in car, plus maximum tailer wight of 80% of this).
Any actual towing will be much less than 750kgs with braked trailer and less than kerb weight *0.8 to be safe.
Does this sound o.k for the SVA1 form??

dont forget the extra weight on back axle. nose weight could be upto 75kg's.
Mmmmm difficult one this.
I'm thinking that the construction/ structure of the towbar will need to be proven ( most new bars if not all need to be type approved) also will
you not need some sort of load sensing device on the rear axle to allow the braking effort to change under load.
I'd say your rear axle load is on the light side as well if your going this route.
But good luck anyways.
o.k have filled the form in for now as:
Axle1: 425kg (as standard Indy)
Axle2: 570kg (as standard Indy)
Gross: 995kg (as standard Indy)
Train: 1665kg
To take into account any additional nose weight. Any more advice would be great..
As far as I am aware train weight only applies to HGV vehicles I didn't put train on my sva form

Mine has a tow bar. Took it off for SVA though as wasn't mentioned. Does this mean that unless i specify a train weight, anything I tow will be illegal? BTW not used it to tow yet, just an accessory mounting point, ie luggage / bike racks.
yes (this is my understanding) for towing, as you insurance is invalid, same problem with some smart cars...

Well I have an SVA date.. So we will see what the tester thinks at the end of April.
