i almost ready for my SVA test but how do i take it there? (only about 4 miles to test centre)

car has not mot,no tax, no reg (not bothered about getting a Q plate) so there for i can't be insured right or am i missing something?

You insure it on its chassis number, when you book your SVA they will send you a letter confiming the date and stating your allowed to drive there

so do i just attach the vin plate from the donor car which got scrapped? and stamp/engrave the chassis number onto the car somewhere like the drivers A pillar?

Hi, no you cant use the donors, if you bought the chassis the manufacture should have supplied you with one. If not ring your local DVLA and they will issue a new one, or let you make up your own

Stamp or engrave it on the chassis somewhere out of site and on an ally plate in the engine bay

If that's what the car is you shouldn't need any SVA. Contact DVLA and see what they say. You can rebody a car and retain the identity of the vehicle without any problems.

donor car is scrapped. shell is different as it's a saloon and not the hatch the original was.

also i can't prove the shell was supplied new by a dealer as i bought it second hand privately

Use the shell identity and register an engine change. Most you will need is an engineers report but an MOT should cover you. If you turn up for SVA with a U.K. Cavalier they will think you're having them on.

really? everyone i spoke to at the local place said i'd need to do the full SVA test.

and if i read the DVLA website right as i can't prove the shell is a new one from a vauxhall dealer i have to do it

you dont need to prove its new! just use the identity of the donor shell, stick its original reg plates on and tell the DVLA it has a new engine! cos then the shell hasnt changed.

Spread it out a little. Think of it this way, if a car was rolled and got a new shell it would not need an SVA. If a week later the engine blew and was replaced it would need a new engine number on the registration document, that is all.

If you've got a log book for the new shell then you should be ok, you wont be able to use the old shell vin number though, thats ringing
