First steps getting back on the road
Bottomley - 27/2/12 at 06:31 PM

Im currently rebuilding & putting a new engine in an autounion ex military Munga.
It was built in 1960, and has old b&w plates on, but other than that i have no information/documents relating to it.
SO what do i need to do to start the process of getting it back on the road?

any advice or pointers would be GREATLY apreciated!!

My old man's has bought a land-rover series 2A lightweight it was registered after release but all has since been lost im sure he applyed for a V5 using the chassis number

Dont know if thats even useful but thought id mention it

ok thanks, so i need to find the chassis number! had a good look already, and i couldnt see anything- this things been chopped up inside so many times!
can you apply for a v5 without the chassis number?

I don't think you are going to get very far without a chassis Number or Vin number.
Is there an owner's club for the Auto Union Munga?

There are a few recognised (by DVLA) clubs which can verify vehicle identities for re-claiming or re-registering historic vehicles but I suspect you would need to be able to show an original chassis number against the registration claimed.

there's some ideas in this Month's (April!?!) Practical Classics magazine on registering a car with no VIN.

Hope it helps!

No - you end up with Loss of identity... and a whole can of VOSA worms

Either I am missing something or there is a red herring here - you say it has B & W plates so - you know must know the registration number. With that bit of info - can you not just apply for a replacement V5?

Not sure the chassis number is of any consequence in that process.

Once you have a new V5 - then you can go about changing the engine within the "normal" process - letter from garage etc.

Yes, it has plates on, but i have no other info! ill see if i can renew on the v5.
where can i find more info on the 'normal' process?
Thanks
