What Should I do?
Dave Bailey - 21/4/12 at 09:05 PM

Car is just about finished but I just can't get it running right...... It drives fine on load but for emissions testing the car doesn't run well.....

I am sure it is going to fail emmissions but I am desperate to get it to IVA so that I know what else I have to fix...

Should I try to sort out the runing issues or just go to IVA.... I have had the car on a rolling road but it just seems to have a problem running closed loop on the DTA with the LC1 sensor....

Pointless taking it with a known fail, you need to get that sorted what setup are you running

give alan a call at dta

Don't run closed loop! Map for emissions at idle/fast idle with engine hot and closed loop disabled.

Thanks....

Setup is:-

ST170 Zetec
DTA S60 with LC1
Jenvey throttly bodies 48's
Dry sump with crank case beather blocked off.

I was concerned that the throttle pot wasn't returning to 0 correctly so I replaced it with a Penny and Giles Hall effect one... Not sure if this has also upset the mapping because the car was mapped on the old one....

Very possible. The output of the new throttlebody may not have the same progression as the old one. Re-calibrating the fully closed and open positions will be vital and probably means the 0 - 10% outputs will be very comparable and not upset idle fueling or 90 - 100%. The progression 20 to 80% throttle-pot output may however be quite different.
Have you a cam advance map. I did see that DTA had sorted the details for the ST170 engine and the S60 offered full PWM control of cam timing?

No I don't have the cam map.... to be honest I was a bit concerned because the guy who mapped it was recommended by DTA however he had never done an ST 170 before so it was a bit of trial and error... It was a map from scratch but but things like fuel pressure etc was not set up first.... I had set it to 3 Bar and maybe this was correct.

My error has been that I have tried to improve it and work out why it doesn't run well... I guess I should have gone back to the tuner... I asked him to contact DTA and make sure that the Map settings were correct but I ended up going back to Alan direct because I wasn't getting any results... I may talk to Alan to see if he can have a look at the car but I am concerned that we are going to start to talk big money...

I would like to check and make sure the following first:-

1. Injectors are calibrated and are not leaking.
2. The inlet CAM solenoid is working correctly.

I may well have a problem with the car an not the way it has been mapped but I don't think I have...
