IVA fail...

OK, the worst bit is over and done with, and to be honest I don't think it's too bad. Six issues in total.

1. Exhaust mount insecure. All that faff I was doing to see if the exhaust was quiet and secure, I forgot to do it up at the end. I bet the brackets and nuts are somewhere on the garage floor right now!!

2. Rear number plate mount not radiused. That's me misunderstanding the rules. I thought the number plate radius would be checked as if there was a number plate in place, turns out it's not. I didn't bother radiusing the edge because I thought it would be covered. That's an hour printing out another one, no biggie.

3. Front direction indicators too low. This one is an interesting one. They're on the Healey body in their respective holes, but that has put them an inch too low. It could stem from the car overall being too low, but that shouldn't be difficult to fix.

4. The clutch fork fouls the brake pipe when it's pressed. I couldn't have seen this one, it needed one person to see it under the car and one in the drivers seat operating the clutch. Again not difficult, I have a bit of room to 'adjust' it.

5. Fuel pipe too close to the gearbox mount. I thought I'd left it enough of a gap, but because the gearbox mount is on a rubber bobbin he felt it was vulnerable if the engine moved. I think that's fair, I can adjust that one too.

6. And now the one that I think is going to cause me the biggest hassle.... design weights!! I declared it as 409kg, they calculated it to be 431kg. I have to go to DVLA to get that one corrected, I'm guessing that will be hard work.

That was at Bristol, and it was a really good experience overall. They liked the car, and acknowledged that I'd took my time with it and got 'most' things spot on.

And to think, all last week I was worried about fuel tank leaks and exhaust noise, neither of which were an issue in the end! He has said 45 minute retest, and given I'm expecting a pass after that I'm going to drive it down next time.

That's a really good result!

That is pretty close to a first time pass so congratulations.

Jolly good, all fairly easy to fix and sounds like #6 is sorted from your other thread too.

Remember to post some obligatory pics once you get the pass.

and take a decent pic (or better, a proper scan) of the certificate, you will have to send the original, and you don't get it back. [don't post it online, but keep it for your 'file' ]

Feb/March can be 'orrid, I suggest getting some decent personal 'weather gear' motorcycle gloves and a decent jacket.

Ooh, great tip, thanks! I hadn't even considered that I wouldn't get it back, I definitely want a copy of it.

I took this one at the station, but it was a bit grim so early in the morning;

Aye, I've got leftover gear from when I was an all weather biker, a full waterproof oversuit as well as gloves. I will treat myself to a new helmet at some point though, my current one has seen better days.
