Clutch pedal / cable question ?

Time to get on with the 7

Trying to get the pedal box set up. Question does the run of the clutch cable look corect.
Or can any one tell me a beter way ?
I think this is making the pedal very firm to push and wonder how long the cable is going to last

The cable is a mk2 escort. Would a longer cable be beter, giving a bigger curve ?

Mines about the same, but i have a slightly longer cable. My cable came off a capri if its any help, and loops around to the other side of the engine mount.

Mine's allegedly a MkII Escort cable too, but it goes round the front of the engine mount. Yours looks a bit of a tight curve but since it's already fitted you could see how stiff it is in practice, then change it for a longer one if necessary

I never liked that arrangement, although it has been use to good effect for quite q while.
I used a quadrant lever so the cable gets pulled horizontally whilst the pedal pulls downwards. This gave a much better cable run.

Needs to be a more gentle curve to give you an easier pedal.

Also one of the nuts needs to go the other side of the gearbox flange - that allows adjustment of the clutch

No it doesnt. One is a locknut for the adjuster nut. You cant get the nuts off the end of the cable due to the nipple. Well at least you cant on mine.

One of mine has a slot in it - must have done by previous owner (Banger racer)

My cable ran a similar route to that in my old westy.
Ate a speedo cable every few hundred miles till I got an angle drive on the gearbox and softened the cure a fair bit.

David, I would have thought that a nut went either side of the clutch cable holding plate on the bellhousing locking the adjuster up to the bellhousing as well tensioning.

Just seemed to be the most logical way, saying that me and logic don't always go hand in hand Will check the haynes bible tomorrow cos haynes is never wrong is it

Would be good logic wouldnt it, But as David said the nut will not come past the flare of the nipple....

That curve will be too tight, did similar on my RWD Pug 205, then found it was crap.

Ended up re-engineering it and going hydraulic in the end, totally naffed off with cables!!! (did 3 interations of cable clutch before I gave up)

Learnt my lesson and did the Locost using hydraulic concentric setup to start with.

Gets rid of the whole incredibly heath robinson standard clutch actuation "system"

I had the MK2 excort cable on mine at 1st, it was far too tight and i am now running a much longer cable to give a wider arc.

I'm pretty sure mine is an early P100 cable,the part number is QH1010 but its not much different to capri and cortina Mk4 in length.

yep the Cortina cable was cheap and gives a better curve.....Thanks.....
