Afternoon all
Following on from y p[revious thread about my frt discs foulning my wishbones on full lock, I decided to have a look and see if i could adjust my
steering rack lock limits. Please see photo below
Can I adjust this and if so how?
Would it be easier to machine up a colloar to fit over the ends to act as an end stop limiting movement?
failing that? any other ideas?

A collar/washers would do it. It'll do the same as fitting self centering springs will. Maybe make them two piece for ease of adjustment incase you over/under do it?

i just put a blob of weld on to stop it going all the way in, prob not an ideal solution, but was never gonna get the ends off of the rack in question!
I have no idea how they come off, hence me suggesting making 2 piece thingys.
some guys in racing use hose clips on the rack links to limit steering lock

It shouldn't be too much bother, just need a mushroom shaped thing but cut in half, with a thread cut into each bit to allow they to screw/bolt together.
To get them off you need to knock the roll pino out thats on the join between the locking collar and TR ball housing. Then using a punch you can undo
the end TR housing.
Theres a plastic cup in under the end of the TR and a spring, dont lose them if you take it apart.
Some people have just put big Jubilee clips on the rack to limit movement. Should work.
Better off making a proper stop to slide on if you can though. Or making a ssplit one as suggested. Turn a little groove in it, the width of a cable
tie and then just put a tie around it to hold it on.

The ends in the photo have been off before. (and on the receiving end of some aggro to undo 'em) An unadulterated rack has a single locking pin
through the join between the big end piece and the small locking collar, this pin has to be drilled out to remove the end. Then the locking collar can
be backed off and the end just unscrews to reveal a plastic pressure thing spring and washer which preload the ball joint. As this one's been
through the mill already (it may not have had the locking pin replaced) it may not be a good idea to give it too much more stress & carry on with
the plan outlined above....
BTW I made my lock limiter out of a turned shallow U section, cut in half & using a jubilee clip to hold the 2 halves together

The Marcos car solution is to weld a pice of pipe to the inner end of the locknut. Looks like someone has used some Stilsons on that rack
dont wanna sound silly but dont those things screw in and out? so therfore by screwing both in you reduce the lock... i dont see the need of making stuff to bolt/weld on it just screw those things in...
My mates westi has worm drive hose clips,seem to work ok.
No Tom, they screw up until the outer tightens on the ball. Screw 'em up more & all you do is lock the joint. In reality you screw 'em
up til the required preload is achieved - I think flak monkey's site has the required info in his downloads section.

I've done the same as you on my old grasser Bob, used tube cut in half and jubileed in place
