which ford front caliper is smallest?
froggy - 12/9/07 at 07:18 PM

ive converted my front hubs to take a 7.5" disc on my kitten and i need some single piston ford calipers. i know that there are clearance issues when using 13" wheels and ford brakes up front but are any of the earlier escort/fiesta calipers better for clearance than sierra ones? the pad area on my disc is the same as a standard escort non vented disc but with using 10" wheels i hvent got much room betwwen the disc and the wheel but the disc size is the same as the mini,s use for 10" wheels any ideas chaps,it can be any caliper as long as its a sliding single piston type for 10mm solid discs

From what I understand, it's the rear calipers that are an issue with 13's - the rear discs on the sierra are larger diameter and the handbrake mechanism gets in the way (IIRC there are some 13's that can be used if you bend the handbrake mech down a bit).

I would imagine that the M16 caliper is smaller than the sierra front unit though.

Why do you need to use Ford calipers ?

The smallest Ford Floating calipers were Mk1 Fiesta.

Minis & Metros use the caliper bolts spacing as the Cortina/Mk2Escort

M16 Calipers are huge (fat)

Dunno how much braking you want, but on my grasser (which needs very little) I use modified (machined a bit) vauxhall cavalier/astra/calibra REAR calipers (2 pot) on the front. (cortina uprights with machined down discs.
