I've just hit upon a minor problem that I really should have checked in more depth a little earlier... Tyre size availability!

I'd designed the suspension around a tyre size of 315/35/19 - for a few reasons - firstly, it gives roughly the same rolling diameter as the original vehicle had, secondly it fits the rim sizes I was looking at, and lastly I'd seen mention of it on a forum a few weeks earlier.

Only now I can't seem to find anyone that actually sells them. OK, so I tried a quick hunt on the web - anything over 295 doesn't appear to be available in 35% - so either I'll have to jump up to a width that I feel is too wide to get 30% tyres, or sown to 295/35's

Or is this just a case of no online places do them and I'm missing a prime source?

Your might have to phone a few specialist tyre places but from what i understand, there should be quite a few places that can get any tyre size you want.

Well Toyo seem to make some (at least at some stage) so may be worth looking up a Toyo dealer in your area. Undoubtedly going to be special order at that size. http://www.madpsi.net/ProjectMR2. (about half way down)

cheers. Don't care if they are special order, just concerned that every place I tried listed absolutely no /35's over 295!

I'll have a ring around today and see what can be got.

Cheers, but I can find 295/35 easily - only larger sizes that I was having difficulty with.

I know it doesn't really help you but my mate has 315/35-17's on his 6.x litre v8 engined 260z so you can get 35 profile in >295.

Just a shame its 17" diam and not 19"!

well I've phoned every specialist I know of, and it appears it's nigh on impossible to get anything in 35 profile @ 19" now - though interestingly, one also pointed out I was given the wrong tyre size to match the rolling radius to anyway. He's given me a few to think on - recommending 315/25/19 rear & 235/35/19 fronts. or 305/30/19 - 245/35/19's - checking availability I think the latter is the most likely.

soooo that's nice. Just got to rework the whole bloody suspension setup, redesign the body so it doesn't look like you could fit a small Albanian child between the tyre and wheel arch and we should be back up to speed... some point in a month or two.

A lot to be said for 145x13"s --- Lotus Elan did pretty well on them.
Higher profile tyres give more forgiving handling & tend to survive close encounters with kerbs ---- the cost of just brush a kerb on 19" wheels dosen't bear thinking about.

Lad up the road from me put 17 rims on his Civic, they lasted a week before he had to buy 2 new rims and tyres -- it hurt his pocket even more than his ego.

Lotus Elan wasn't a 1.9m wide car, trying to put 500 odd bhp from a 4.2l V8 onto the floor though

18's would have done (and were originally intended) but the availability of wheels for the Porsche hubs lent me toward the 19's.
