Bit of a long shot, but does anybody know of a decent early (<1971) manual Scimitar for sale?

There is two in a scrap yard near me.

What running gear are they ? one had slot mags but not ford pcd.

matnrach - 19/4/10 at 07:09 PM

They are basically Ford running gear but I would like one in good nic

(They have 14" rims with 4.5" PCD)

They hadnt made it all the way into the yard, they wont be roadworthy but it looked like some one had spent the cash, it looked like a twin stainless exhaust.

It may help if you say what area.

My dad had one for years with the 3l v6 essex engine but I never did get a ride in it.

That great thanks.
If you need any more info u2u me

mookaloid - 19/4/10 at 08:44 PM

there's a 1970 model on ebay which looks as if it needs a bit of work.

I like the first GTE's - I did a body off restoration of a 1970 one many years ago - the best of the scimitars with the original flat dash.

they were never as good after that.

Cheers

Mark

I agree with you which is why I'm after one.
If it were a bit closer I'd take a look

I know why you want a good one, mine needs a little bit of work: linky (my next project - 1970 GTE)

Back axle is a Salisbury - fitted to some Jags too I believe

They are mainly made from Triumph TR4/TR5/6 running gear.
Rear axle is modified to 4 links + watts linkage.
Last models used some Granada front suspension parts and powersteering rack

Engine is from a Ford Grandad either either the awful, rough unreliable Essex V6 or the slightly more reliable slightly less rough Cologne V6. Parts are getting hard to find even for the Cologne unit.

Manual overdrive gearbox is a unique amalgam of Granada and Transit parts with a Layock overdrive from the Triumph Tr6 parts bin --- must be a nightmare to source parts for.

Autobox is either a BW35 (good box but really not designed for a 3 litre engine) or the notorious Ford C3 3 speed although the last cars may have had a Ford C4 4 speed which was no great improvement.

^^ a 1970 will have the early version of the 3.0 Essex V6 - far from the best engine, but it sounds good
