Exhaust bobbin but with a long thread length?
RichardK - 9/1/11 at 02:34 PM

It would be real nice if I could find a bobbin that is long enough to go through a bit of 25mm box and still be able to get a nut on, I'm could try and weld a bit of stud on the one I already have while the bobbin is under water as a last resort, but would prefer the real deal so my exhaust can isn't relying totally on my dodgy welding

Anybody if any car had such a beast?

Cheers

Rich

Can you bolt a bracket to the box section and then bolt the bobbin to that? All the bobbins I have used in the past have short studs and I don't think anything butt welded on will be very strong.

Could you not tap a thread in the 25mm box (or atleast in the wall of the box) then Loctite the bobbin in. Pretty sure thats what ours is like.

I have seen bobbins with a male thread one side and female the other.

You can then use a bolt or length of studding whatever size you like.

"Rivnut" springs to mind, or if not strong enough a weld in threaded tube.

I had a side ways on exhaust mount and had problems with it vibrating and snapping regularly with the normal mini type bushes .Eventually I bolted a plate through the floor so that it stuck out the side and used a heavy duty rubber mounting bush mounted vertically and have no problems since. The bushes are available from RS components and are available in various sizes with male or female threads, I used one about 35 mm dia with 10mm female threads and used a short bolt in each end.
