Anyone got a fire tablet? Are they any good?

I was tempted, until I found out that they have their own version of Android that's very Amazon-oriented. Loads of links to Amazon, on-screen ads when the phone is on standby, and stuff like that.

I decided to go elsewhere...

I have a fire and got so p***d off with it not letting me install non amazon apps I bought a Hudl - does everything Fire will and all those other apps amazon won't let you use

Paying £10 gets rid of the ads.

Unfortunately Tesco have stopped selling the Hudl, or soon will.

I know - but the Fire is still Amazon-fixated.

Doesn't have to be a Hudl, any other android based tablet will not have the restrictions that Fire has - and its not just adverts that you have to get rid of!

I bought a bunch of sub £100 Android tablets at work to give to developers to test on. I ended up keeping the Fire in the drawer as no-one annoys me enough to inflict it upon them.

That reminds me of the company who kept a Lada to give to any driver who bent their company car...
