What network printer?
Jasper - 29/9/10 at 11:32 AM

I need a printer for my home. I really need something that will print direct from the network, rather than being plugged into my PC, which now lives in my bedroom.

I don't even need colour, and I don't want expensive cartridge replacements.

I find that a B+W Laser is cheaper to run than inkjets for light use because the toner cartridge lasts for a couple of years at home whereas the inkjet cartridges dry up and have to be replaced every few months.

so I would go for the cheapest networked laser printer you can find - HP or samsung are the most likely candidates.

Small HP mono laser printers with network support are usually around the £300ish mark. We used to use the 1320n in the smaller offices, but they dont make it any more.

After a quick look on ebuyer you can now get a hp 1606dn for £180 which is a mono laser with duplex (print both sides of the paper) and network. i dont know how good(or not) these are though.

Dont know much about them but you see a lot of brother's monocrome printers around. Certainly all the ones at uni where brother.

At work we have HP printers (and laptops, lenovo workstations) Fax machines are all Brother.

At home we have a pair of Canon IP4000's with print servers. So i got another of them to match. Its an ink-jet but i cant fault it and it has a pigment black for text which gives a very cheap and fast black text.

There's a Samsung network mono printer on Amazon for £98 with free delivery ... looks like the one for me.

Just got p1ssed off buying endless ink cartridges and the quality always being a bit shit, and this will stop the pointless colour printing that always seems to happen in our house!

Cheers chaps

I'm pretty happy with the HP Officejet 7110(i think)

Prints decent quality over the net, can scan and fax too.

Does double sided printing and scanning too which is nice.
