could someone do me a favour, what distance does the catch and the hook have to be apart for a good tight fit, is there a recomended distance ?

could someone measure theres for me before i go mad please ? eg hole to hole.

You're welcome.
If you do like Donut with foam, then you could fit without then benefit from the extra tension with the foam.
No foam for me, hence the dry run on a block of wood.
You'd be surprised how much difference 1mm makes.
