The gellcoat on my GRP bodywork has some scuffs on it...some relativley large....

Rather than having to repaint the entire thing, is it possible to blend the exisiting jellcoat across the scuffs and then polish it so noone will ever know?

What products/processes work best?

Gentle sanding with 1200 grit paper will smooth over scratches giving a silky smooth matt finish. Polishing compound will bring back the shine.

BEWARE. GELCOAT IS THIN. DON'T SAND OR POLISH THOUGH IT.

I did this with the beach buggys shell when I first got it (blue), it had been sitting in a barn for 20 years, the orginal vw chassis had all but vanished and the shell looked horrid. A lot of work and it came up like a new paint job, why did I paint it yellow??

If you go through it you can still repair it with pigmented top coat used like filler....or cheat and put a sticker on it...

Relatively deep scratches will polish out (I like autosol personally), anything too deep (more like gauges) will need making slightly deeper (down to glass mat) into a V shape groove then filling with replacement colour-matched flowcoat (or if you use gelcoat cover it with some polythene). Then a gentle sand with some fine sand paper and some polishing and job done...

Found this in the screwfix, on page 70 of vol 73. G3 400g paste, fast cutting action, removes blemishes and polishes in one action and is for use on GRP. Also they have the polishing sponges.

Not tried it myself so don't know how well it will work but I would be prepared to give it a try.
