Chaps,

Gonna start moulding my bonnet (hopefully later today), ad am just wondering if I need to bother with a gelcoat first layer.

Mould will be a one off naturally, just wondering if gel is essential. I have enough in case

Will be using on bonnet though.

I would say that yes you will deffo need to gel coat first. I have glassd things in the past without a gel layer and the matt strands are VERY visible on the finished item.
Cheers.

You can either spend time getting the buck smooth once or spend forever sorting out the panels that come out of the mold.

Gel coat everytime for me - soooooo much easier to get it smooth , and if your `buck` is fiberglass it will stick to it like brown stuff to a fur blanket without gel

whatever you do make sure you wax it well or it will stick and cock up all your hard work...been there done that...
