something like these?

i want to make some kind of enclosure like what E36 bmws have. but using 90mm combined main and dip units. undecided on frint indicators yet, but some sort of identical looking yellow LED units if possible

i remember your used to be able to buy little bottles of amber stuff for paintingindicator lenses and stuff. would it be allowed to paint thses amber to use as indicators?

Are they E marked?
If not you might have a problem. Also LED's tend to be directional and may fail on the angles required for sva/iva.

Yup. The problem would be the field of vision. If it's not E-marked they'd test it for "suitability" and as LEDs have a narrow field of vision likely fail it. To pass it'd need painting and some diffusing type lens fitting.
