scoop - 18/5/09 at 11:30 AM

Anyone in the area willing to give me hand with a few electrical problems so i can get the car back for the SVA retest soon?
Got to get a couple of iso warnings to come up on the dash and there is some interaction between the rear offside lights.
I know nothing about auto electrics
The loome is from Premier

David Jenkins is in your neck of the woods, might be worth a U2U to see if he can help.

i had issues with rear lights working when they didn't need to, check carefully that the bulbs are eathed ok, when i tested the loom it was fine, but as i pushed the plug onto the light it pushed the earth pin back out of the connector

South of...

It's a fair way to Lowestoft from my house... and my wife will kill me if I take on another non-house task and don't get my domestic chores done!

Rear Light interaction.

Check you have the right wires giong to the right bulb connections (ie side and brake light's not crossed)

Most of all check the earths are good and back to bare metal. (and greased to stop them rusting later).

A bad or missing earth will make the bulb find its earth through the filament of another bulb, thus causing the interaction.
ie Indicator ON, and then the brakelight pulses dimly in sympathy.

Definately check all the earths are good.

Premier Loom is good, just their diagram takes a little thinking about.
A circuit diagram would make life easy, but they dont do one.

MY thoughts are check the lighting earths first.

Dont know about ISO warning lights. Exactly what ones are those?

Another mate of mine came out of the woodwork in relation to the prob's. He's a chef by trade so why would i ask him? Turns out hes been working with bikes all his life and can fix just about anything mechanical. We spent 7 hours on the car today and several calls to Alan at Premier. What a lovely man. Anyway, it turns out the so called pro that installed my loom is either colour blind or a t**t. We stripped off all the nice decorative tape hed put all over it to find that the car should either not have worked at all or burst into flames with the amount of live wires he'd just bound up in it without protecting the ends.
The rear light problem was tracked down to a Robin Hood supplied cluster which today started throwing fuses. Phone call to be made tomorrow.
Steve.
