audi aftermarket head unit install
RK - 2/3/12 at 12:25 AM

Thought I hooked everything up correctly, but no joy except a flashing light (constantly on). Unit is an EBay thing, that does everything except wash dishes - reportedly. Any advice? And I am aware of some VW/Audi ECU code reader issues.
Car: 2006 Audi A4 Avant
Old Radio unit; Symphony II

Done the searches, but still fairly confused. Spent about 3 hours on it this afternoon all for nought. I think i like kit cars better!!

Could it be something to do the can-bus system ? Or needing to activate an option with vag-com?

There's loads of videos on YouTube that guide you through installation

i had a audi s3 with an aftermarket stereo and vag com would only work with std stereo plugged back in !!

Well, the car worked with the new one; just the new one didn't do anything. None of the youtube videos are understandable. However, I just noticed that a wire was not properly seated in one of the connectors, so this may explain the difficulty the thing had running. I will try again tonight.

I take it the light you mention is on the radio?

Does the situation change with the ingnition fully turned on? If it works when engine ignition is on then your red and yellow wires are the wrng way round.

The Can bus should not change anything along as that year of car is still using the ISO ( 8-pin rectangular) plug. Also make sure the arial is also connected, sometimes the radio takes its earth through there.

Bottom line seems to be that the unit haas power but wont turn on. You have got it from ebay so you will always run the risk of it being faulty.

Yes, the light was on the unit, and yes, the seller offered to reimburse me. Now my front speakers aren't working with the old Symphony II unit. I think I should take it into someone who does this sort of thing more than once ever 25 years or so.

Warning: one guy would not touch it because he hasn't seen one that works. Lesson learnt.
