Fitting reversing sensors to 57 Modeo o/t

Hi All

A friend of mine wants to fit reversing sensors to his 'new' Mondeo. He's seen the cheapish ones on eBay and thinks it may be a simple job of just scotchlocking into the feed to the reversing lights. I've suggested to him that it may be a bit more complex if the lights are wired using CAN bus..

Does anybody know if this is a simple one on an 57 plate 08 Mondeo.

I can not answer for the Parking sensors kit, but when i fitted the tow bar an electrics to my 58 mondy. i had to fit a seperate box, with its own positive feed, as all of the cars electrics were about 5v

That suggests it's CAN bus and you needed a 'bypass relay'. I'll try and get a look at his car before he spends his money!

Most guides I read when doing my wife's 206cc recon that you don't need the bypass relay as the sensor draw so little current that its not noticed by the can bus.

Not saying its a good idea, but most people seem to get away with it.

Not being funny, but can people really not manage to park a car without parking sensors...?

Big vans and trucks maybe, but cars!

I hate the blasted things. I've had two hire cars with them, and in both cases when it goes from beep beep to beeeeeep, I'm still at least 18 inches from the car behind!!

fitted to reverse on a A6 55 plate avant and did not relay it worked well.

You should be able to wire it straight from the reverse lights no problem without it interfering with the can bus or bulb failure detection. It certainly works on Rover 75 which are CAN Bus and have a bulb failure warning light.


I have found on modern cars because the wiring is small diameter Scotchloks can often not get enough bite to make a reliable connection so a soldered or other tap connection is a safer bet.

Best place for mounting the buzzer is the rear parcel shelf --- save passing wires through the car and is in the right position psychologically to warn of a danger at the rear. Visual displays are a waste of time.

If buying a cheap system buy another one for spares as even on the expensive systems sensors can fail. If you have the correct spare you can be sure it will fit and be the correct size for the hole in the bumper.

Trucks and vans are easy because you can see the rear corners, even with a trailer you will see at least one rear corner when reversing.
Some medium sized and larger cars are +++++++ to park because the shape tapers towards the rear you can't see anything aft of the rear door handles in any of the mirrors. Parked in my drive way I can put wheelie bin behind my car and it isn't visible in any of the mirrors.

Thanks for the advice! My mate's wife chose the car but then realised she can't park it so the sensors are for her!

He can buy one and I'll give him a hand fitting.
