Speed sensor wiring

My Duratec has a hall effect Speed Sensor fitted to the gearbox and I would like to connect it to my Evodash.
The problem is that the colours do not relate to my Haynes circuit diagram.

Haynes

Grn/Red .... +ve
Whit/Blue .... Sender
Blk/Orange .... -ve

My Engine
Yellow/Brown .... ??
Black/Brown .... ??
Brown .... ??

Can anyone help me out here?

Guessing here, so have a multimeter ready to check.

Brown will be ground (-ve) check the resistance between that wire and the chassis/engine block. (The resistance should be pretty much 0 ohms)

Black/Brown will be +12V. Check the voltage between the end of the wire and the chassis (ground). Should be 12V

Yellow/Brown will be the signal.

Like I say, its a guess (based on standard colour coding), so check it with a multimeter.

Looks like you are spot on David - thanks a lot.

Although there is no continuity between any terminal & earth, I applied a 9v battery (for safety) to the + & - terminals and measured 1.2V ambient and 4 pulses of 9V (between -ve and signal) per revolution of the shaft. Does that sound about right?

Next I will reinstall the sensor and count the revs per wheel rotation and then calibrate the Evodash.
