Will this work? (poll)

Quite interesting for the tin top.
Apologies if its been on here before

thingy

It takes more energy to generate the hydrogen than you can make through burning it.
It'll create more drag on your alternator for no measurable benefit...

Snake oil.......

mookaloid - 1/5/10 at 11:24 AM

if it did anything at all don't you think that car manufacturers would be fitting them as standard?

But you knew that anyway didn't you

What about if we make a pcb that interacts with the consumption indicator that says that you are doing 200+ miles to the gallon.

off to the drawing board

NigeEss - 1/5/10 at 11:40 AM

And also, where does it get the hydrogen from ?

I imagine it would have to get it from atmospheric moisture so quantities would be small.

Even if there were appreciable quantities the ecu would have to be mapped to suit or you'd
simply cock up the AFR.

Amazing thing is that seven people have actually bought one...... They'll probably now convince themselves that they actually work.

Unless of course the fundamental laws of physics have changed since last time we looked

Stott - 1/5/10 at 12:30 PM

yeah they're great, I've got one, and combined with my fuel ionising magnets, my electric turbo and my inlet turbulance creator thingy, my car now makes it's own diesel, I sell it back to shell............

I voted O DBSFS.

long time since I did chemisty but even back then it took a lot more energy to extract hydrogen from water than you get from burnng hydrogen.

don't become mug no. 8.

I cant believe hes tried to scare people with comparing a fuel tank full of hydrogen to an H Bomb

Yes I liked that little touch

A1 - 1/5/10 at 01:05 PM

I cant imagine it working well, cause unless its really effiient youll lose more than you gain.
much better to safe fuel costs by using red diesel.

not that i do...never owned a diesel.

Simon - 1/5/10 at 01:11 PM

This hows it quite nicely, just a shame the quantities would quite be enough

in my opinion the only way this could work would be as a kerrs system, using electricty generated from deceleration to generate the hydrogen. using the cars electrical power simply puts more load on the alternator and hence the engine.

it is not possible to get something for nothing!

even this answer is still hypothetical, you would effect the cars fuelling by putting hydrogen in the cylinders i would have thought.

+1, unless he has a small perpetual motion machine inside that little tube then he's talking nutsack, the electrical connections would have to be colder than atmosphere (as if they are hotter - which they almost always are - energy is being lost, just as if it makes a noise). Good way to make a couple hundred quid from thick people.

I wonder if he gives out a card with each unit just like Collinson got in his '85 paper - sorry - in the throws of revision and it's creeping across into everyday thought now. Worrying.

BenB - 1/5/10 at 03:09 PM

Wow. Generating energy out of nowhere! Amazing. Just wait until the energy companies get onto that.

What a load of twaddle.

MikeRJ - 1/5/10 at 03:13 PM

If you define "work" as making an eBay seller lots of money, then yes it will work very well.

£95 for a few plumbing fittings that won't actually do anything useful; there's a sucker born every minute.

Thurbs - 1/5/10 at 03:22 PM

No, I'm sure one of the motoring programmes or consumer shows looked into it. The physics are ok but hydrogen produced is in such tiny quantities.
You don't get something for nothing

Litemoth - 1/5/10 at 03:50 PM

I think he's been blowing on those bagpipes of his too hard

the physics most certainly isnt ok

google 'conservation of energy'.

oldtimer - 1/5/10 at 05:46 PM

I used a hydrogen generator in the past and even a small one used quite some juice from the mains, and that was just to get a tiny flame. It also looked nothing like what he's selling.......mind you he has some rather tasty illuminated, coloured gear knobs for under a fiver!

iti_uk - 1/5/10 at 06:17 PM

There's no option for "LOL Just NO!!!!!!!!"

daviep - 1/5/10 at 06:19 PM

Now I would vote "total bollocks" but a friend of mine has tried a homemade version of this on his TDI Transporter and claims he is getting better consumption.

I have ridiculed him loudly and frequently but he's not normaly prone to talking nonsense, which makes me think there maybe something going on that I don't understand.

About 6 years ago same guy started LPG converting diesels (gas and diesel at the same time) and saying he was getting better power and fuel consumption. I also rubbished this claim reasoning that other people would be doing the same if it was effective. Seems I was wrong as it is now relatively common. He believes the small amount of hydrogen produced helps to catalyse the diesel burn.

So in conclusion I still think it's rubbish

A few years ago I was looking at getting my diesel on an LGP conversion, only no b***er does it unless it's on wagons, or boats..

I've got plans somewhere for a home-made one, it really looks like it does have an effect..
