All powerful/knowledgeable LCB, can you answer a question for me:
Looking at a mondeo for the wife - do all duratecs have dual mass flywheels?
Hearing about the ball ache they can cause on the TDCI models, I was thinking 2.0 petrol version to skirt the issue.
Anyone know?
Ta
My 2 litre petrol Duratec had Dual Mass flywheel. I think the only "2 litre duratec" that doesnt is the ST150 in the Fiesta.
hth
as above the ST150 Fiesta is the only one without as far as I know
also the ST150 doesn't have the EGR system either

The ST150 has standard flywheel and EGR blanked off as standard
dam, so no non-DMF benefit to going petrol then?
What problem does it cause in a mondeo?
When it brakes down it buggers the starter motor.
So the garage bill is a new clutch, A new flywheel, A new starter and all the labour = One large bill.
Yep thats it. Don't want to get hit with a massive bill a few weeks/months in.
Any one got any experience of owning/driving one? when do they normally fail?
Mine's approaching 100k, all fine so far.
Ive got nearly 40k on a 58 plate, and i tow a caravan, i presume causes more stress
and so far, touches wood desk with both hands and feet !!
all ok at the moment

Generally they don't give as much trouble on petrol engines also after about 2002 on Ford Diesels they seem to have improved the spec, usaully starter fails first to those in the know a the get rid quick warning.
Also listen for a knocking at idle . I've had a couple that have somehow rotated the center section so that the holes that the flywheel bolts go through to secure the outer section don't line up with the bolts meaning the flywheel has to be cut using a cutting disc to remove the bolts. The concentric slave cylinder needs changing at the same time meaning even more expense
When it goes depends much on how the cars been driven, a car driven with mechanical sympathy the dmf will last a long time, however a car driven badly will have the dmf fail much sooner.
80k and have had the starter off twice for a bearing rebuild and a general clearing.
Replacement is from £550 but the cheapest I have found fitted is £750.
Clutch still works with little problem so am banking the money for the inevitably.
Biggest pain is getting the starter off not a lot of room.
Oh it's on a 53 plate 130bhp TDCI
