Atom I've been to the factory and saw them being built.. Very nice.
The company I worked for (before being made redundant) suppllied Ariel with magnesium wheels.. Yep DYMAG..
Worked there for 27 years.

Welcome to the madhouse! Are you looking for any particular make or just a BEC?

Phil

fullpint - 7/9/11 at 07:08 PM

Very nice.. A little out side my price range.
Never having had a kit car before I want an entre level first. Just to make sure a BEC is for me.. I'm sure I will love em and it will only be a matter of time before I move onto the proper job. Dax/Westfield etc..
Missed out on a ZX12r today which was advertised at a ggod price.

Hellfire - 7/9/11 at 07:11 PM

I'd offer to take you for a spin in a BEC but Wiltshire is a bit too far for me to travel...... I'm sure some of the other members could oblige though

Phil

ReMan - 7/9/11 at 07:14 PM

I'm a bit closer, but still a bit of a way.

"before I move onto the proper job. Dax/Westfield etc."

What he said!!!

Thats just the problem I'm having..
Is anyone going to Castle Combe this Saturday?? I will be there on the wife's club stand. Would be nice to find a BEC to sit in and make sure my legs/knees clear the body/dash..

Hellfire - 7/9/11 at 07:22 PM

How tall are you?

Phil

fullpint - 7/9/11 at 07:26 PM

Only 6 foot but inside leg is 36 inches!! Was in talks with a F-27 owner (on ebay) and he said I could be in trouble.. Car was up in Norfolk so too far to travel.

"before I move onto the proper job. Dax/Westfield etc."

He's my friend already

On the serious side. Don't under estimate any other make or seff builds.
There are alot of very good se7ens out there.

jase380 - 7/9/11 at 08:04 PM

Think you would be ok with an MK, im 6 foot 4 and my inside leg is 36 inch, i had plenty of room in my indy.

tompat3463 - 7/9/11 at 08:10 PM

Hi Alan, Yep I did see your thread in the for sale.. 5100 ono and still no offers on it
Saw your listing this morning on ebay but again I think you are miles away unless I arrange collection!!
Yellow is the best colour cause what ever I get I intend to have it sign written with my company logo on the side.

Literally minutes from you is a garage called PJ Motor Services Link. He's on Box Hill I'm sure you'd have driven past it thousands of times. He specialises in BECs. The owner, James occasionally races in the RGB championship. He always seems to have a few in his workshop at any one time. Very nice guy and very knowledgeable. I'm also very close, maybe 20 minutes (Bath), and should have my car (R1 Fury) up and running again by next week. In contrast to James, I'm not hugely knowledgeable but very enthusiastic. I've learnt loads over the past 18 months (mostly from here, and Andy at AB Performance). Would be very happy to pass on what I can and give you a run out in the Fury.

fullpint - 8/9/11 at 06:57 AM

James is just down the road from me!! And yes I have pasted his place a few times.. I will STOP next time im going down Box hill. Cheers..

Delivery wouldn't be a problem. I've had cars delivered all over the uk in the last few years.

What sort of price range u looking at ??

fullpint - 8/9/11 at 08:15 AM

At first I set my self a 8K limit but realised that I should not spend too much on my first BEC. I missed out on a 2005 ZX12R engine Tiger Avon yesterday. That was up for £5300 ono and I felt (too late now tho) I may of got it for around the 4,800/4,900 mark.
5K is the new figure I have in mind but being new to this market I'm not sure if that will get me a decent basic model?

tompat3463 - 8/9/11 at 03:59 PM

ok cool...I think U will find something great for that price..I'm wanting around £5200 for mine and I'll actually be making a large loss when U weigh up what I've spent on making it 'betterer' over the last 6 months.

So with that in mind U should be able to find some very decent

Al

How much are you looking for it Lee? With or without engine?

fullpint - 10/9/11 at 07:21 PM

Saw a Striker at Combe!! Wow they are cosy inside and this one looked very lower.. Also a Mac#1 but failed to have a good look at it.
I did manage to chat to a guy (didn't get his name but I gave him my card) and he's looking out for a car. Currently he own's 2..
Also been offered a ride in a R-1 BEC Hopefully with in the next couple of weeks. Can't wait to see how these little gems perform..

Neville Jones - 12/9/11 at 08:15 PM

Dax have got to take the prize as one of the most dangerous 7 types available.

The company has a reputation for the Cobras, shame they haven't engineered the Rush properly. The Rush cannot in any fashion be regarded as having an engineer anywhere near it. At least not an educated one.

Any company putting a 7 type car on the road without structure behind the rear axle is acting extremely irresponsibly.

Geez, even the MK's I've had the displeasure to work on have got a little metal behind the axle, just behind the flimsily mounted(at the factory) fuel tanks.

All in my very humble(?) opinion of course.

DON'T GO NEAR A DAX!!!!!!

And who dreamt up that abortion of a rollover bar setup on the Dax's????? Should be put in Broadmoor with all the rest of the psycho's.

Have Westfields fixed the diff carrier/rear suspension mount problems yet? Not on the cars I've looked at lately.

They've all got their pro's and cons, but it appears the bigger names are the lowest quality, Cateringvan included. Structural nightmares some of 'em.

Cheers,
Nev.

Sounds like its a bit of a mine field for a newbie Its a real shame i missed out on a Tiger Avon last week, it ticked all my boxes.. No rush (LOL) to buy one

fullpint - 16/9/11 at 05:07 PM

A Mk Indy blade (900cc) has popped back on PH. 2005 and up for £6150 !
Any pointers at what area I should look at if I view the car?
I'm thinking £5750 max but thats only because I don't wont to pay the asking price.
Any advise is more than welcomed.
