Distance to Suppliers
onzarob - 6/12/07 at 05:52 PM

I thought mapping out the factory distance from home would help me decide......

F27 image sports cars 268 miles
Aries Motor Sport 275 miles
Robin Hood 299 miles
GTS 304 miles
Mac#1 312 miles
MK Indy 312 miles
Tiger 318 miles
MNR 359 miles
Leugo , Another Country...well scotland!!!

........I can get a tractor fairly local

So distance can't be used as a factor.....maybe buy a welder with the petrol money saved!!!!

Hey, you have it light!
If I want to turn up at a manufacturers to wave a pitchfork I have to take a ferry!
(They don't let you take pitchforks on planes any more)

I have a look ito it

I can't complain too much as it is a great to live, good driving road...when the carvans arn't here!!

Just get frustrating when you just want to go and see some stuff

I spoken to Mark (Triton) so a good soucre for nice seats and only down the road

fesycresy - 6/12/07 at 08:28 PM

I decided on my mac1 after meeting them at the Exeter show, sat in the car 5 minute chat - job done.

Although it's good to visit them at their factory, it's not necessary.

Most of the manufacturers mentioned have big trucks now (mac1's modified tail lift made me smile) and could meet you at the show to deliver your kit ?

How about Raw Engineering in Hereford, Procomp and Westfield in the Midlands ? These three are more expensive - but closer if that's a deciding factor.

HTH.

I missed the show this year as I bought a mag about it the day after

I will probably go next year, hopefully to pick extra bits up

I don't mind traveling for the right kit, it just amazed me that most of them are the best part of 300 miles away.

I must admit i haven't look at westy prices as i assumed they would be to expensive. need to have a look

repper - 6/12/07 at 08:55 PM

i cant fault my luego but ye a long way have you thought about a dax in essex my mate has one and its a nice kit

onzarob - 6/12/07 at 09:23 PM

Westfield 227 miles
DAX 295 miles

So I may just have buy the 'book'

onzarob - 6/12/07 at 09:34 PM

wooo hooo Raw is under 200miles...well 198 to be precise

TimC - 6/12/07 at 09:50 PM

Lyn beat me to it - Raw and Procomp both worth a look!!

onzarob - 6/12/07 at 10:22 PM

Procomp are 233

Just been looking at there website, they make some nice racing machines, look like a very tight outfit

Paul TigerB6 - 6/12/07 at 11:33 PM

if you are going to Procomp then you can pop just up the road (comparatively) to see Chris (zxrlocost) who is an agent for MNR.

West Mids MNR agent linky thing

I guess you could pop up the M42 to see Aries Motorsport too who are maybe an hour away up the A38 and from there its under an hour to MAC#1 and MK arent too far away then either. Guess you would be looking at an overnighter though but surely to get the right car before waiting for a show next year it would be worth it.

How much is a travel lodge at this time of year?? £20 to £30 for a room depending on when you can go

twybrow - 7/12/07 at 12:22 AM

How about the local library for a copy of 'The Book', then build your own from scratch?!

RK - 7/12/07 at 04:40 AM

With all due respect, don't talk to us about distances. Some of us are a wee bit further than your furthest supplier, and can't even get some parts imported, whether we pay for it or not. The lack of distances Europeans have to go for things is damned near walkable to me.

triafgg - 7/12/07 at 09:31 AM

What about Quantum, aren't they down your way?

Funny that My Brother lives in Vancouver and My Uncle lives in Nova Scotia, I think i'm nearer to my uncle than my brother and they are in the same country...Canada is massive

On a serious note, If someone was closer it would of been nice, just from a pop in and chat angle, But once I've made my mind up on supplier (If i don't go and buy a welder) I don't mind driving 300+ miles for it

(If I didn't like driving I would be buying a Seven type car ) LOL

Quantum 50 miles

They are next door in Devon

Well This thread has dragged a few other supliers out, plenty more reading. Thanks Guys

DarrenW - 7/12/07 at 01:27 PM

I thought i was hard done by living up North. Mac#1 is 110 miles away. That is positively next door compared to living on some far flung peninsular called Cornwall.

I wish to be that close......quantum are close but I'm not sure. I like the classic look.....but nicely engineered

Mark Allanson - 7/12/07 at 09:57 PM

I can save you even more money - you can borrow a Clarke 140 if you want.

S J Andrews only up the road, Dale Reardon is in Helston, Richard Oakes only 4 miles away, you local friendly welding instructor in Crowlas, Triton in Carnal Downs.......

Things are closer than you think!

RK - 7/12/07 at 10:06 PM

I wanna hear about you building a Napier! So go talk to Quantum!

Thanks for the support, I will price up the steel in the new year and Mark (Triton) going to give me a shout when he has his Haynes Chassis the right way up.

Nice to see the local support coming through. I'm on a dreckly schedule so no rush

I may take you up on a welder, I have looked through your build diary and its an inspiration.

It looks cool, but I want a 7

Triton - 8/12/07 at 07:59 PM

What about summat a little of the rails, intended to be 3 wheeled only but those i have shown the wierd thing to say should have option on another wheel!!!Same tub but can be 3 or 4 wheels but strictly bike engined as can't be fussed faffing about with big lumpy car engines...besides it would make it way toooooo heavy..
It's in hiding and not for general noseyness just yet but it will be one of those things you either love or hate...and my intention right from the start..nowt like anything else as it just kinda happened and changed then changed again now being moulded as fed up changing things.......

Mark

onzarob - 8/12/07 at 08:23 PM

that explains the 'Building ' quote

Not sure on 3 wheels but 4

vealmike - 8/2/08 at 02:39 PM

No. No. No.
Please understand, the Skunk does not have one wheel missing. It's merely one wheel short of imperfection.
