Vauxhall Astra Diesel
Minicooper - 5/6/09 at 04:54 PM

My Astra Turbo Diesel keeps flashing a warning light, I'm driving along and it starts to rattle not much but I can hear it, it sounds like a small amount of pinking that you might get with a petrol car, a few seconds latter on comes the warning light. Drive a bit further the rattle disappears and the warning light goes out, doesn't appear to affect the performance of the car, the light is flashing on and off and is starting to annoy me.

Any ideas

Cheers
David

what year car is it? and is it a 1.7, or 1.9 ?

which light on the dash is it that comes on?

2000 turbo diesel 1.7, it's the spanner symbol that indicates a problem will have to plug it in to a diagonostic tool to find the error code.

I have checked all fluid levels and the car gets regular oil changes, etc

sounds like the injection advance is playing up.

have you put biodiesel or veg oil in it? this causes problems with a sensor...

probably best to get it plugged in at a friendly garage.

That'll be the bank balance warning light coming on then, but at least its a vauxhall and not a common rail french car. Probably too early to be EOBD compliant so will need to be plugged in and fault codes read with specific software.

EGR valve?? does it smoke? Injector advance, the injection ecu goes wrong on the 1.7's. The solder joints go dry and crack off the board in the ecu.

Mine did the same thing, was the 98 1.7 model only it lost power when the light came on. Once it got over 1900 rpm the light would go out and a second later woosh!

I gave up after replacing this bit and that bit and generally spending 25% of the car's value on making it work properly, then one day something clicked and it never happened again.

By the way mine smoked like a mutha-f-er when I planted the right foot
