Car on the TT Course
Nosey - 21/6/09 at 10:43 AM

Just reading about Tony Pond driving a Rover on the Isle of Man TT Course and I just wondered:

Your kindly billionaire Uncle has promised you a lap of the course in any car you like, road or competition. Which one?

I'm torn between a Veyron or a Le Mans prototype.

MakeEverything - 21/6/09 at 10:52 AM

I think the track (route) would be too bumpy to get the power down on the Veyron, and the mountain course is very bendy.

I reckon id like to do it in a classic Ferrari or an Aston DBR.

omega0684 - 21/6/09 at 10:53 AM

i'd take my DAX

and then ask him for the money of the cost of a supercar, don't know about him but it would put a smile on my face!

mangogrooveworkshop - 21/6/09 at 10:59 AM

I would do it in the seven

blakep82 - 21/6/09 at 10:59 AM

i'd prefer that focus i was on a bout last week, over the veyron on the TT

speedyxjs - 21/6/09 at 11:03 AM

It would have to be a classic for me.
E-type jag or Sprite

UncleFista - 21/6/09 at 11:21 AM

BRM v16, I reckon the sound bouncing off the mountains would sound unbelievable

Howlor - 21/6/09 at 12:15 PM

RS200 or an Austin healy 3000.

Good point. A Radical BEC it is, then...

fesycresy - 21/6/09 at 01:42 PM

Brawn Formula 1 car, I can live with the bumpy roads

De Tomaso Pantera a close second.

zilspeed - 21/6/09 at 02:45 PM

Some sort of tarmac rally car.
Anything else would be wasted by the roughness of the roads and you do want to go fast.

Manta 400 would be the one for me.

Ari Vatanen on the 1983 Manx - Manta 400

iank - 21/6/09 at 02:50 PM

Since the RS200 has gone I'll take a 6R4 ideal for twisty rough roads if not as pretty.

MikeRJ - 21/6/09 at 02:52 PM

That's a great video, you can hear the terror/relief in the navigators voice after they clip that wall

Steve G - 21/6/09 at 02:57 PM

Ariel Atom 500 for me please.

iank - 21/6/09 at 03:03 PM

Tony Davies doing his thing on the Manx in a 6R4

Wouldn't want to do those roads quickly in a 7.

flak monkey - 21/6/09 at 03:04 PM

As the other Group B's have been taken, I reckon it would have to be the Audi Quattro

scutter - 21/6/09 at 03:55 PM

Would be a seven, not mine i'd like one that corners nicely

nick205 - 9/5/13 at 09:16 AM

205 T16 with tuition from Ari

snakebelly - 9/5/13 at 09:42 AM

would have to be a Lancia Stratos for me

owelly - 9/5/13 at 10:12 AM

Tuned Mini. Straight cut gears. Sticky tyres. I win.

bartonp - 9/5/13 at 11:55 AM

Errr, Rover Vitesse?

Andy B - 9/5/13 at 12:17 PM

Shelbourne Honda F2 sidecar outfit - quite simply because I would love to do it just one more time! oh and its really good at focussing the mind

MikeRJ - 9/5/13 at 12:24 PM

The mountain course is pretty tight and twisty and obviously there is no run off at all, so it's not exactly ideal for large supercars like the Veyron or even LMPs. I reckon doing it in a Caterham or Atom would be a lot of fun, but you'd have to be supremely talented to put in a remotely quick lap.

I reckon that's a good shout actually. Presume any 'Hypercar', LMP or Formula car would not cope with the road surface, current WRC are limited on power, Group B cars that excelled on tarmac probably don't touch on the speed or agility of a Pikes Peak car (especially now it's tarmac all the way up).

But....

...weren't the 16-cyl Auto Unions from the 1930's good for 200mph? :-D
