what does it mean when a car is badged as a 'CC'? I always thought it was coupe cabrio but the passat cc is neither. Confused...

Its Coupe Convertable normally, but this will explain the passat....

quote:
No, the VW Passat CC isn't a folding tin-top elder bother for the Eos... Nomenclature connotations of Coupe/Cabriolet are entirely misleading. CC first stood for Concept Coupe when the show car was revealed and, as the real deal hits the streets in summer 2008, actually stands for, um, Comfort Coupe. Only in Germany…

In the case of the Passat I think you'll find it stands for "Complete Crap"

its had quite good reviews, but im not too keen myself. Reason its on my mind is a customer today had one, nearly new and he hit a dog in it, and was moaning about the bent front end!

Cheesey Construction

On a French one it means 'CRAP CAR'

The problem with car naming is its all marketing, technically a coupé should only have two doors (And as such also not have a hatch). There have been many 4 door Coupés over the years (Rover P5 Coupé, for one).

Its the same with almost any body style though, name one and you'll finad a car thats been sold as one without truely being so. I'm not entirely sure but I've a feeling for a car to truely be a cabriolet it should have 4 doors for example.

A mondeo 4 door coupé is on the cards at the moment.

The Rover P5B Coupe WAS a true Coupe in the sense of the definition. It's roof line was 4 inches lower than the Saloon version and the rear window was raked as well. The doors on the saloon were all pressed steel but on the Coupe the window frames were seperate thin line chromed items.
