fella walked into a job i was on today, 'any of dis scrap going spare?'. No i said, none spare. 'What would you guys want with it?', he asked, and as blunt as could be the lad told him we were weighing it in ourselves! He looked mortified, and muttered 'evil' as he walked off . Then he showed his colours as he walked out of the drive, said he would just rob it next time.

Such an evil look as he got into the pikey wagon Really made my day pissing the twat off, as so many times i have had crap stolen from my garden.

i really hate pikey scrap monkeys. we had our scrap pile depleted many a time and always when the gates had been left open through the day.

First thing I do when I go onto a camp is clearly take note of all the reg's and check them. Generally they're okay because it's all to easy to catch them this way.
Insurance, driving licenses and proving their identity is something else though. You can't just PNC a vehicle for insurance details because you have a hunch nowadays.

I was at a butty van with a mate near Bristol a few years ago and we watched these two blokes come up to the van and did the biggest double take you have ever seen!! We thought that they must be looking at the most amasing pair of - oh no, they were piket sh1tbags and were eying up this blokes generator

Oh and as mistergrumpy says, gathering index numbers and the signwriting off the sides really helps the old bill.
They hate them as much as the locals do.

I'm sure all the reg's do check out, APNR probably also checks them out for insurance.
Do you also check the VIN numbers match the reg? Might explain the identity 'issue'.

You should have offered to sell it to him for alot more than it was worth.

My old boss once had one who offered to remove some 'Scrap' from his drive for £20 quid, the object in question was an unassembled Green house wrapped in polythene.

Police can stop anyone to check their vehicle, surely living on an illegal site is reasonable cause to assume your breaking the law.

ANPR is for traffic cars only and they don't get involved in coming to traveller camps, only if they catch them moving on the road. TBH they do generally have insurance in one form or another but whether it all adds up is again something else.
We can't do insurance checks unless there's a moving traffic offence being committed due to ......damn, what're the words I'm thinking of privacy laws thingy. You get what I mean anyhow.
Yep VIN numbers are checked too and sometimes you can get them off the caravans which they don't seem to like you doing too much.
In general they seem to have the obvious, easy things covered so's not to draw too much attention to other things I should think.
TBH we don't have a massive problem with them where I work. We have a traveller site and two showpeople site and they're not bad people. Sure they'll only tell you what they want too but they're alright and if illegal camps are set up they get served with an order quite quickly and disappear.
Incidentally the showpeople have taken to making burger trailers to make ends meet and I know one of our sites has a 7ft sheet metal bender!

Making assumptions in our job is a bit dangerous as those in charge will happily turn the tables and screw you themselves. There has to be reasonable suspicion based on facts that can be proved and presented and there are processes to removing people from sites.

i may sound like a bad person here, but i was over the moon when i heard someone had fallen off the roof of a church whilst nicking the lead off it. Him and an accomplice got charged with theft too

I fully believe that you forfeit your rights when you decide to remove the rights of others (on purpose I may add)

Hmm. Good point. I've always presumed you have to have a fixed address based on the fact that the travellers I have dealt with always had one. It's usually summat like plot. 4, XYZ Caravan Park, Pigs Feet Lane, Shitsville.
I know there are always bills and bailiffs orders going to certain plots from previous tenants so I would guess it's the same for things like that and I know that they suffer medically because of lack of an address.

If that were the case they'd have to use something more reliable than the post office to deliver the reminders.
If you don't have the letter you just need to fill in a V10 and have a V5 and some proof of insurance.

You go to the post office with the insurance and MOT proof and they fill out a V10 for you, thats how it went down last time I bought tax.

Lol... I watched 'Snatch' in bed the other day (behave!) - not a huge Guy Ritchie fan, but he sure caught the Pikie lifestyle in that film!
